105-year-old Alaska hardware store to close

Samson Hardware, a fixture in Fairbanks, Alaska, since 1903, will be closing its doors on Dec. 15, according to the Daily News-Miner newspaper.

The Janovich family, owners of Samson Hardware, received word from a state judge in October that they would need to move out by mid-January to make way for an upcoming bridge project.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has bought properties along the Chena RiverOs north bank and plans to begin demolishing the building that houses Samson Hardware and the surrounding buildings next summer, the article said. The owners have plans to re-open Samson Hardware in a different location in the spring.
