Ace participates in energy saving promotions
Ace Hardware is addressing the high cost of energy by participating in several promotions this summer -- including one with the Salt River Project (SRP), one of Arizona’s largest utilities.
According to the Arizona Republic, the Oak Brook, Ill.-based co-op is offering SRP electric customers a 20 percent discount on shade screens sold at participating Ace stores through Sept. 30.
The co-op is offering coupons at SRP’s Web site, as well as at Ace locations.
The SRP reports that household windows can account for nearly 50 percent of the heat that enters a home, and shade screens can save up to 25 percent on air conditioning costs. Using shade screens in a typical 2,000-square-foot house can save a homeowner $200 to $250 a summer, the article said.
In other efforts to address energy issues, many Ace stores have begun to accept used CFL bulbs for recycling, with a handful of stores acting as drop-off sites for old cell phones, rechargeable batteries and mercury containing thermostats.
