CertainTeed to cut back wallboard production
CertainTeed Gypsum has announced the decision to mothball its Jacksonville, Fla., wallboard facility due to the slow residential housing market in the southeastern United States. The plant will begin winding down production on Nov. 14 and suspend operations on Jan. 7, the company said. Approximately 54 employees will be impacted.
The Valley Forge, Pa.-based company said it hopes to resume drywall production in Jacksonville when the housing market rebounds.
CertainTeed operates a total of 22 gypsum wallboard, finishing and mining facilities throughout North America.
USG, another major producer of drywall, confirmed earlier this week that it was implementing a 20-percent reduction in its salaried work force. The Chicago-based company also cited a drop in demand from residential builders.
