Coming soon: 2013 Industry Scoreboard
<!--[if gte mso 9]>
In 2012, the major story of the Top 300 Industry Scoreboard was a simple analysis of the gainers versus decliners. A full 57% of the companies showed positive sales gains — it was the first time that more than half of the field reported sales growth since the frothy days of 2005.
If you believe the economists and you follow the trend, the sales momentum will continue with the 2013 Industry Scoreboard, which is scheduled to be published in the June issue of HCN.
The research behind the 2013 Industry Scoreboard began earlier this year, with a new-and-improved electronic survey soliciting store count, units, sales, employee count and other key metrics of retailers focused on homeowners or home builders.
The largest industry report of its kind, the Top 300 includes industry trends and market analysis, along with the sales rankings.
Categories measured in the 2013 scoreboard are:
• Lawn and garden
• Paint and sundries
• Pet supplies
• Power tools
• Windows and doors
• Work wear
In the 2012 Scoreboard — sponsored by the National Hardware Show — the top five home improvement retailers, ranked by home improvement sales, were Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, Sears Holdings and Menards. Operating under the law of large numbers, it is unlikely that the top five order will change in 2013.
