Home Depot kiosk helps DIYers get permits faster
In Washington, D.C., local government officials -- including Mayor Adrian Fenty, have unveiled a new home improvement project permit kiosk at a Home Depot store in northeast Washington.
According to an Associated Press report, the two kiosks in the store, called “Virtual Permit Centers,” are linked to the city’s postcard permit system, with the goal of making the permit process easier for residents.
Residents can submit zoning change applications for their properties for new home improvement projects, such as adding a deck or fence.
According to the report, local officials have said putting the kiosks in a Home Depot store “made sense” since “contractors and DIYers often find themselves there anyway.”
