Mark Ayers, the 63-year-old president of the building and construction trades department of the AFL/CIO, died unexpectedly on April 8, according to an announcement issued by the organization.  No details were released on the cause or circumstances of his death. Ayers served as president since 2007.

Union members at the Sheboygan, Wis., Kohler plant voted in favor of the company’s proposed labor contract Sunday after four months of negotiations, according to WBAY.com. 

According to the article, 62% of UAW Local 833 members voted to pass the contract, which included a five-year wage freeze, a flexible work force, a two-tier wage structure and a $1,000 signing bonus.

United Auto Workers Local 833 have announced they will hold an informational picket today at the Sheboygan, Wis. Kohler plant -- one week before a planned vote on a new contract with the company,  according to theSheboygan Press.

 

 

According to the article, a UAW spokesperson indicated that the picket is a show of solidarity for the union’s bargaining committee, and is not indicative of the contract negotiations progress, or lack thereof.
