Westlake Ace Hardware is partnering with SoundBite Communications, a provider of mobile marketing solutions, to launch a campaign that sends weather-related mobile notifications combined with special marketing offers. Called “Weather the Storm,” the mobile alerts allow Westlake’s customers to receive communications based on National Weather Service information and their particular zip codes.

Lowe's target, he said, is on the two largest spending groups, together called "creators."

Philadelphia -- True Value Co. CEO Lyle Heidemann presented some positive numbers during the co-op's Fall Market general session, as he encouraged members to remain visible to their customers.

Speaking here Friday morning at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, site of the company's fall market, Heidemann pointed to positive recent sales gains across the co-op. Since the third week of May -- a starting point selected because it was the beginning of this year's delayed spring -- retail sales are up 4.3% at True Value, with every department positive, he said.

San Jose, Calif.-based Orchard Supply Hardware tapped Vertis Communications to supply marketing services in a new three-year deal.

Under the agreement, which extends a 15-year relationship between the two companies, Vertis will manage Orchard Supply Hardware's advertising inserts program from its local Sacramento facility.

Orchard Supply Hardware is among Vertis' growing portfolio of home improvement retailers including Lowe's, Ace Hardware and Menards.

Do it Best Corp. has named Ferguson Advertising its agency of record, assisting the hardware and lumber co-op in a variety of its marketing efforts.

Peter Kleinman has been promoted to the position of director of marketing for Leviton’s distribution channel.  

In his new post, he will be reporting to William W. Marshall, Leviton’s senior VP sales and marketing. Kleinman will lead the marketing, branding and advertising for the company’s full line of products across the distribution sales channel.

Described as a marketing platform including social media and online video clips, The Sears Turf Wars campaign brings Lowe's and Home Depot into the picture.

Advertising Age, citing an internal announcement, has reported that VP and chief marketing officer Frank Bifulco has been replaced by former VP advertising Trish Mueller. Bifulco was with the Atlanta retailer for almost three years.

Mueller joined Home Depot in 2009 after serving as senior VP marketing and advertising at Sports Authority and VP advertising at American Signature.
