Mineola, New York-based MAX USA, manufacturer of pneumatic nailing tools, named Jerry Gibson as the company’s new Northwest regional sales executive. 

Gibson’s career includes 30 years of experience selling building products through wholesale distribution. He has 17 years of experience of product management for Spenard Builders Supply and 13 years travelling Alaska for Huttig Building Products as a territory manager.

WOLF has cemented a new distribution partnership with Tacoma, Washington-based Capital Lumber, extending its reach to the West Coast for the first time.

Capital Lumber will distribute WOLF's PVC Decking and Capped Composite Decking deckboards in Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

“WOLF focuses on helping independent dealers separate themselves from the pack,” said Craig Danielson, CEO of WOLF. “Capital is the ideal partner because they share that focus. With the Capital agreement, WOLF Decking has become a coast-to-coast success story.”

Bart and Diana Tyler, proprieters of Kelloggs & Lawrence in Katonah, N.Y., and DeWayne Tripp, owner of Hinton (Okla.) Hardware joined an elite crowd in 2013: HCN Hardware Store All-Stars. Their stores made the list, along with 48 other worthy retailers, one from each state.

HCN is once again congratulating the 50 hardware store, home center and farm & ranch retailers who made the annual HCN Hardware Store All-Star list.

Now in its third year, HCN's annual list of high performers recognizes hardware stores -- one from each state -- that are outstanding in their field. Voters in 38 states will consider 174 statewide ballot measures on Nov. 6, 2012, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). These proposals are wide-ranging, with a number of them having potential workplace implications.

Questions appear on the ballots in more than one state concerning:

• Medical marijuana use;
• Legalization of marijuana; and
• Same-sex marriage.

A recently released report by IHS Global Insight shows how far away U.S. states are from peak employment and the distance each one must travel to reach pre-recession job levels. According to U.S. regional economist Steven Frable of IHS Global, only four states have been able to reach or surpass their previous employment peaks. All four are beneficiaries of the current energy boom: Alaska, North Dakota, Texas and Louisiana. Some states, though -- notably New York -- are less than 1% away from reaching peak employment.

ProBuild Holdings, the nation’s largest pro dealer, has announced a restructuring that will eliminate several high level management positions, lay off a number of people, and institute a hiring freeze at its Denver headquarters. 

In an internal memo obtained by Home Channel News, ProBuild’s CEO Rob Marchbank outlined the new leadership and reporting structure of the Denver-based company. The executive VP operations layer of management will be eliminated, and all senior VPs of operations will report directly to Marchbank.

CoreLogic, a provider of information, analytics and business services, has reported that home prices in the United States decreased 0.4% on a month-over-month basis, the first monthly decline in four months. According to CoreLogic, national home prices, including distressed sales, also declined on a year-over-year basis by 4.4% in August 2011 compared with August 2010. This follows a decline of 4.8% in July 2011 compared with July 2010.

Shuttered are locations in Meriden, Conn.; Riverdale, Ga.; Elgin and Schaumburg, Ill.; Kenai, Alaska.; Cambridge, Minn.; and Ticonderoga N.Y.


Obviously, the move upset the affected communities. For instance, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski complained of the lack of notice. But CEO Robert Niblock is paid to make tough decisions, which is how he described the seven closings.
