The American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA) Industry Confidence Index included questions about running mates and political agendas.

The April Confidence Index survey asked two supplemental questions of AHMA members:

“Assuming Mitt Romney becomes the Republican candidate for president, which of the following would you most like to see selected as his vice presidential running mate?”

An American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA) survey of its members showed significant support for Mitt Romney. The survey, part of the AHMA Industry Confidence survey, also found that most members doubt the constitutionality of the Health Care Act.

The American Hardware Manufacturers Association’s (AHMA’s) Home Improvement Industry Confidence Index’s Current Situation Index improved in March to an all-time high of 350 from 270.8 in February (March 2008 = 100), while the Future Expectations Index also increased to 298.3 from 229.3.

In comparing current sales levels to year-ago levels, 84% of respondents said sales were higher in March versus year-ago levels, up from 65% in February.  For March, 11% reported sales were even, and five% said sales were below year-ago levels.

The American Hardware Manufacturers Association’s AHMA Home Improvement Industry Confidence Index’s Current Situation Index improved in September to 237.5 from 229.2 in August (October 2008 = 100), while the Future Expectations Index declined slightly to 187.9 from 193.1.

The American Hardware Manufacturers Association’s AHMA Home Improvement Industry Confidence Index’s Current Situation Index improved in August to 229.2 from 225 in July (October 2008 = 100), while the Future Expectations Index was unchanged at 193.1.

In comparing current sales levels with year-ago levels, 55% of respondents said sales were higher in August versus year-ago levels, up from 54% in July.  For August, 10% reported sales were even, and 34% said sales were below year-ago levels.

Organizers of the Internationale Eisenwarenmesse -- or, International Hardware Fair -- are seeing growing industry demand in worldwide hand-held power tools.

According to Koelnmesse, the 2010 growth rates in Europe matched the ones in Asia with 8%. Europe is currently the world’s largest market for handheld power tools (EUR 3.2 billion) followed by North America (EUR 1.9 billion) and the Asia Pacific region (EUR 1.5 billion).

The American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA) announced mixed results from its AHMA Home Improvement Industry Confidence Index for the month of July. 

The Current Situation Index was reported to have risen to 225 in July, up from 166.7 in June. Also, 54% of survey respondents said sales were higher in July in comparison to those from one year ago, up from 40% in June. Some 18% reported sales were even, and 29% said sales had decreased since last year.

As part of its June Industry Confidence Index, the American Hardware Manufacturers Association posed two additional “hot topic” survey questions to its members, regarding members’ opinions of the passage of the proposed Jobs and Energy Permitting Act and of free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea.

The 30-year AHMA veteran will retire as vice chairman of the American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA), but will remain as a liftetime honorary member of the board.

After more than 30 years of service to the AHMA, Farrell will assume the title of vice chairman emeritus, according to the Schaumburg, Ill.-based industry group. He will continue to represent the association at various industry events.

A survey of members of American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA) reveals a majority believe health care reform will negatively impact their business.

The survey questions were prompted by Congressman Darrell Issa's (R-Calif.) solicitation for input from the AHMA to help identify existing and proposed regulations that have negatively impacted job growth. Issa is chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Regarding the Health Care Act,  71% expect a negative impact; 10% do not; and 19% weren't sure.

“The new year began on a positive note with 65% of our member respondents reporting sales above year-ago levels," said AHMA CEO Timothy Farrell.
