• Same-sex marriage.

A slow-moving Hurricane Isaac is bad news for the people of the Gulf Coast, according to Thursday morning weather reports. 

By one estimate, Isaac could cause as much as $1.5 billion in insured losses. Nearly 650,000 people in the area are without power in the Gulf region and Arkansas.

Retail companies and distributors have mobilized.

AZEK Building Products has announced a distribution partnership with Gaiennie Lumber Co. based in Opelousas, La. 

Gaiennie Lumber will now offer the full line of AZEK's  exterior products to its dealer network in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi and 10 counties in Tennessee.

Morrison Supply Co., the fourth-largest distributor of plumbing and HVAC supplies in the United States, has sold a majority share to private equity firm Advent International.

Founded in 1917, Morrison is now the largest distributor of plumbing supplies in the southwestern United States. The company has 77 branches and showrooms, located in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Kansas. Morrison has several lines of business, including plumbing, heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC), industrial pipes, valves & fittings, oil & gas and waterworks.

Wal-Mart Stores had positive news for analysts and investors gathered for the retailer’s annual meeting on Wednesday in Rogers, Ark. The chain said its same-store sales rose in July, August and September, reversing a two-year slump. It also announced that it plans to cut its capital spending in the United States, even as it increased cap spending abroad, as it continues to shift toward building smaller stores.

Stock Building Supply has confirmed its plans, outlined in an April 1 memo to employees, to reorganize the company into four divisions and eliminate two top executive positions. 

The Raleigh, N.C., pro dealer will no longer have a chief operating officer or VP national sales. Instead, Stock will rely on four regional presidents/general managers, to oversee the No. 4 player in the LBM industry, according to the Home Channel News Top 350 rankings.
