Paul Ramsay has been named chief information officer at Lowe's following the departure of Kevin Summers earlier this month, according to multiple media sources.

Summers was only with the home improvement retailer for two years, but specific reasons for his departure were unknown. Lowe's spokeswoman Chris Ahearn told multiple sources that the move was not related to a data breach like the one Target had, costing Target CIO Beth Jacob her job.

Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's is making a big shift in its in-store work force, favoring part-timers over middle managers.

The move will cut about 1,700 middle management jobs in the stores, but will lead to an additional 8,000 to 10,000 part-time workers, according to Chris Ahearn, Lowe's VP public relations. The shakeup is expected to take effect Jan. 29.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed suit against Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe’s March 30, for allegedly requiring an employee of its Morristown, Tenn., store to work on Sunday.

“Lowe's Home Centers committed religious discrimination by requiring an employee to work on his Sabbath, and by harassing and retaliating against the employee, causing him to lose hours,” the EEOC said in a release issued March 31.
