In Canon City, Colo., Fontana True Value is carrying a new stamp of approval: “True Value Best Hardware Store in Town.”

Jim Fontana and Susan Palladino accepted the designation during a True Value Co. ceremony in Atlanta, during which 13 stores were honored.

In Canon City, Fontana True Value is known for empowering employees to make decisions, including returns and price matching. 

“Every day I get customer feedback about how friendly and helpful the employees are,” said Fontana.

Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners has agreed to purchase the assets of Factory Builder Stores, a large independent specialty distributor of appliances and cabinets based in Houston.

Denver, Colo.-based IDS Group has released a new collection of decorative 3D wall panels and ceiling tiles that can be used interchangeably for various applications.

"The same panels were designed to be applied on the wall, dropped into a ceiling grid or glued up to the ceiling," read a company statement. "The panels are designed in such a way that you can use one panel for complete layout and design or mix in several complementary tiles that blend in to create even more unique interior decor."

RGS Energy, a Louisville, Colo.-based manufacturer of solar energy products, has named Dennis Lacey SVP finance.

In his new role, Lacey will be responsible for implementing and managing the company's residential lease financing program.

Cedar Creek has made a deal to acquire Reid and Wright, a lumber and building material distributor based in Bend, Ore., with a distribution center in Broomfield, Colo.

According to Cedar Creek CEO Bill Adams, “This is a key addition for Cedar Creek as it brings new customers, quality people and great products that we’ll merge into our current Denver location.”

The agreement is expected to be completed by March 31, 2014.

Two Sears Hometown Stores opened in Colorado, Florida and Virginia and will be celebrating grand opening ceremonies this weekend.

In Florida, the new store is located in Ocoee at 8849 W. Colonial Drive. The new Virginia store is located at 6623 Richmond Road in Williamsburg. Both locations will be offering 10% discounts through the weekend, plus special grand opening giveaways.

The new Sears Hometown Store in Colorado is located in Longmont, at 700 Ken Pratt Blvd.

Summit Materials acquired Houston concrete company Alleyton Resource and its affiliate Colorado Gulf, known collectively as Alleyton.

“We are pleased to welcome Alleyton’s management team and its highly skilled and dedicated employees to Summit," said CEO Tom Hill. "Alleyton is a great fit with Summit’s growth strategy and we are excited about expanding our footprint in Texas into the Houston market.”

Dave Dworsky has been appointed president and CEO of Heatwurx, Inc., an eco-friendly asphalt preservation and repair equipment company based in Colorado.

Effective Dec. 16, Dworsky will transition from his current role as president and CEO of Dworsky Partners, replacing current Heatwurx CEO Stephen Garland.

Custom window coverings manufacturer Hunter Douglas has donated $350,000 to two nonprofits working to help those affected by the recent flooding in Colorado: Foothills Flood Relief Fund, a nonprofit run by Foothills United Way, and veteran service organization Team Rubicon.

President and CEO Mary Hopkins presented the donations to United Way president and CEO Mimi Vilord and Team Rubicon co-founder William McNulty at Hunter Douglas' Pearl River headquarters.

Bart and Diana Tyler, proprieters of Kelloggs & Lawrence in Katonah, N.Y., and DeWayne Tripp, owner of Hinton (Okla.) Hardware joined an elite crowd in 2013: HCN Hardware Store All-Stars. Their stores made the list, along with 48 other worthy retailers, one from each state.

No matter how you slice them, the numbers of the HCN Top 300 Industry Scoreboard reflect the rising housing market, increased spending on the home and an easy comparison with the previous year's performance.

Of the leading 300 home channel retailers, 277 show positive sales in the most recently completed finished fiscal year, and 12 show declines. Eleven others are listed as flat.

Ace Hardware has announced the appointment of two new member directors to its board of directors: Stew Elliott Jr., of Elm Grove, Wis.; and Amy Kaplanis of Granby, Colo.

Elliott, 55, is a majority shareholder of Elliott Ace Hardware, a four-store Ace chain located in the western suburbs of Milwaukee. Prior to taking ownership in Ace Hardware, Elliott held a leadership sales role with Amerock, a vendor serving the convenience hardware industry, for six years.

Insolroll Window Shading Systems, of Louisville, Colo., announced a recall of its Insolroll Solar Powered and Rechargeable Motor Roller Shades due to a fire hazard. 

The voluntary recall affectes about 1,500 units sold at independent window covering installer retailers nationwide from June 2012 through March 2013 for $400 to $700 per window shade.
