A slew of new locations and acquisitions pushed sales to a record fourth-quarter level at Herndon, Va.-based Beacon Roofing Supply.

Total sales increased 6.3% in the quarter to $726.5 million, up from $683.6 million in the same quarter last year. Net income for the fourth quarter was $24.2 million, down from $24.7 million in the prior-year quarter.

Wallboard Supply Company of Londonderry, New Hampshire is the newest member of the acquisition-oriented collection of LBM companies, now in 18 states with more than 90 locations.

The launch involves 7,000,000 shares of common stock to be offered by the company’s largest stockholder, an affiliate of Lone Star Funds.

Mineola, New York-based MAX USA, a manufacturer of pneumatic nailing tools owned by MAX CO., LTD. in Tokyo, has hired Ron Pedzinski as its new Western regional sales manager.

Pedzinski has 25 years of sales experience in the building products industry, including construction materials and various market segments in commercial and residential.

He also has 15 years of experience in sales management and distribution development in the Western region of the country.

UFP Western Division, a subsidiary of Universal Forest Products, Inc. has completed its acquisition of certain assets of Bigs Packaging and Lumber, LLC, an industrial wood and packaging solutions supplier.

Dallas, Texas-based Bigs was founded in 2011 and is already at an annual sales pace of $50 million.

Valspar has completed its acquisition of Madison Chemical Industries, Inc., a coatings manufacturer based in Ontario, Canada.

Madison was originally founded in 1975 and has been pumping out coatings for a range of applications since, up to and including water transmission pipelines, water and wastewater management and potable water storage.

Oklahoma City-based building products distributor Cedar Creek will soon open a new location in Lubbock, Texas. 

The company already serves 32 states from 24 total facilities.

According to Cedar Creek's CEO Bill Adams, "Although we have serviced West Texas for many years from other locations, having a local branch will enable us to provide even better service to these important customers."

KB Home named Jon Adler to the role of president, D.C. Metro division. He joins the company from McLean, Virginia-based The Georgelas Group, where he was a partner and creator of Bryton Homes, of which he served as president and CEO.

Describing its third-quarter performance as record-breaking, Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware Corp. reported total revenues of $1.13 billion for the third quarter of 2014, an increase of 9.1%, from the third quarter of 2013.

Net income was $37.3 million for the third quarter of 2014, up 8.4%.

Installed Building Products, a major insulation installer based in Columbus, Ohio, is expanding its Midwestern presence through the acquisition of Installed Building Solutions, LLC ("IBS").

Farmington, Minnesota-based IBS is an installer of fiberglass insulation, spray foam insulation and waterproofing products that serves burgeoning markets throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

Barclay Simpson, founder of Simpson Manufacturing and a leading figure in the world of structural connectors, died in his sleep Nov. 9. He was 93 years old. 

"He was beloved by his family, friends and colleagues," reads the announcement of his death from Pleasanton, California-based Simpson Manufacturing.

Reporting to Ace’s Chief Financial Officer Bill Guzik, Locanto will oversee a broad range of financial matters, including internal and external financial reporting, internal controls, operational accounting and systems.

Freemont, Ohio-based Gordon Lumber has selected Erin Leonard to become the company's new president. 

The company employs 132 people in nine locations and was founded in 1868.

Leonard, who started with Gordon Lumber in 2011 and most recently served as chief operating officer, was chosen to fill the role of president after an extensive nationwide search.

The producer of precast concrete insulated wall systems has expanded its operations into Canada with two new licensees that will be manufacturing precast concrete foundation systems.

Superior Walls Alberta (located near Calgary) will be offering Superior Walls Xi products throughout Alberta, and Superior Walls by Magnis (based in Beausejour) will provide Superior Walls Xi Plus throughout Manitoba.
