Strong organic growth was the story emanating from New Britain, Connecticut-based Stanley Black & Decker, which posted third-quarter sales and earnings growth Wednesday morning. 

The company reported net sales of $2.90 billion in the third quarter, up from $2.76 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income for the company of multiple brands and wide-ranging markets amounted to $236.7 million, compared with $166.0 million last year.

St. Louis, Missouri-based Huttig Building Products named Ken Schmitt as regional VP of the Northeast. 

In his new role, Schmitt will be responsible for Huttig locations in Augusta and Saco, Maine; Newington, Connecticut; Taunton, Massachusetts;  Hooksett, New hampshire and Selkirk, N.Y.

WOLF announced it will move its New England distribution hub from its current location in Worcester, Massachusetts, to a 100,000-sq.-ft. site in Northborough. The move to a larger distribution center will boost WOLF’s ability to serve kitchen and bath and building products to dealers in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and upstate New York, the company said.

WOLF took full occupancy of the new site on Sept. 22 and will close its current facility, which the company has outgrown since it opened in January 2011.

Mid-State Lumber Corp. has hired David Baldino as its newest territory manager for the Connecticut market.

Baldino brings over 33 years of sales experience to the table specific to the building materials industry.

He got his start working as a sales representative for a retail lumber yard out of college, and spent the last 30 years working as a sales representative in the wholesale chain, with a focus on Connecticut.

In his most recent position, he served as sales representative at BB&S Treaters of New England.

Bethany, Connecticut-based Laticrete International has acquired HP Spartacote, a Colorado-based supplier of resinous floor coatings.

The move is aimed at expanding Laticrete's position in the decorative flooring and coatings market -- though the company is a manufacturer of building industry products at large.

Laticrete also recently acquired L&M Construction Chemicals and DuPont Surface Care Business.

Wallingford, Connecticut-based Danver Stainless Outdoor Kitchens turned to an 18-year veteran of the home products industry to lead its marketing efforts. 

The company announced the appointment of Philip D. Zaleon as its new marketing director. In his new role, Zaleon will orchestrate the company's multichannel marketing initiatives.

Kleer, one of several building products brands of Tapco International, announced the winners of its photography contest highlighting creative uses of trim and decking.

The Best of Show award went to a stately mansion in St. Simons Island, Georgia. The Best Deck award went to a classic deck in Bolton, Connecticut.

Kleer Trim and Kleer Decking products are designed to provide the authentic look of real wood without a high level of maintenance, the company said.

Versatex Trimboard hired Josh Diaz as a regional market development specialist out of New Britain, Conn.

Assigned to the southern New England region, Josh Diaz will work with Versatex regional sales manager Bill Naumann. After almost a dozen years in supply chain and inventory management,. Diaz brings with him outstanding expertise in the industry and in customer service, Naumann said. 

Versatex Trimboard products are manufactured by Wolfpac Technologies of Pittsburgh.

The Lumber Dealers Association of Connecticut honored their 2013 Lumber Person of the Year, Robert A. Kelly, at their 2013 Annual Banquet in November.

Kelly says it was a Wall Street Journal ad, promoting a lumberyard for sale, that first inspired him to join the industry and leave his government job during the Watergate era.

"Immediately, I had a vision of a horse-drawn wagon delivering rough-hewn beams to the docks and thought, 'That's for me,'" he told the LDAC.

Farmington, Conn.-based Carrier signed an agreement with Robert Bosch North America Corp. to form a joint venture to develop and manufacture geothermal and water-source heat pumps for the North American residential and commercial segments. 

The transaction completion is pending necessary regulatory approvals. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Stamford, Conn.-based Revolution Lighting Technologies, an LED lighting technology company, announced it has acquired a portfolio of general illumination LED lighting products, including several product lines from CMG Energy Solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Revolution Lighting acquired CMG’s Energy Star-listed architectural, PAR lamps and spotlights for indoor commercial applications. CMG’s LED products will be rebranded under Seesmart, Revolution Lighting’s brand for indoor LED applications.

Fiberon has tapped Consolidated Distribution Services (of Consolidated Lumber group) to distribute its PVC and composite decking, railing and fencing products.

Consolidated is set to begin distributing Fiberon's products to lumberyards in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, effective immediately.

Littlejohn & Co., LLC has wrapped up the acquisition and recapitalization of Handy Hardware Wholesale, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last January and was sold in April.

Littlejohn, a private investment firm based in Greenwich, Connecticut, has a stake in wholesale distribution as well as hardware.
