Craftsman is getting ready to expand its MACH product offerings this May, which include (but are not limited to) the following:

The Craftsman MACH Series 3/8-in. Ratchet, which is essentially a push twisting screwdriver, ratcheting screwdriver and 3/8-in. drive ratchet in one. According to Craftsman, it's nine times faster than the average ratchet and is especially adept at loosening stubborn fasteners.

Craftsman made a pit stop at this week's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota as part of its "Make a Difference Tour," a campaign directed at rebuilding American communities with a little gristle and hard work.

The tour, sponsored by Sears Heroes at Home and Rebuilding Together, brought the 36-ft. tool-filled Craftsman trailer to Sturgis in order to get to work on the Sturgis Veterans' Club.

More than 50 volunteers lent their time to make plumbing repairs, do electrical work, make bathroom renovations, landscape and paint.

Hardwood floor care company Bona US has taken steps to become the industry standard-bearer in floor refinishing. Last week, the company announced the launch of its Bona Certified Craftsman training program and Bona Certified Craftsman Five Star Advantage seal.

The program is made up of hardwood flooring experts that have a track record of living up to Bona's standards. Certified members will receive continuing education to sharpen their skills and stay up to date on best practices.

As part of the partnership, Craftsman -- the tool brand owned by Sears Holdings -- has been named the official hand and power tool sponsor of the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary Celebration.

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based co-op says it intends to spread the word about the growth of Craftsman products in Ace stores.

Oak Brook, Ill.-based Ace Hardware says the rollout of the Craftsman brand across its network of stores has crossed the 2,000 location milestone. 

Since Ace signed a deal in 2010 with Sears to bring Craftsman products to Ace stores, more than 2,000 neighborhood Ace stores now offer a full line assortment of more than 650 Craftsman products, the co-op announced today.

Sparks, Md.-based Apex Tool Group, the maker of Craftsman hand tools, Lufkin tape rules and Crescent wrenches, among other products, is being sold to Bain Capital Partners. 

The deal is valued at about $1.6 billion, slightly more than Apex’s $1.5 billion in annual revenue. 

Apex is owned equally by Danaher and Cooper, two manufacturers that combined their tool businesses in July 2010 with the formation of Apex.

The Craftsman CTX9000 Premium Tractor will appear at the Detroit Auto Show, Jan. 10 to 11 at Cobo Hall, Detroit.

Speaking to Ace Hardware dealers at the co-op's 2011 Fall Convention & Exhibits in Denver, Ace's John Surane clarified Ace's agreement with Sears regarding Craftsman and exclusivity.

"Our agreement gives Ace the exclusive rights to sell the craftsman brand in the convenience hardware channel until the year 2015," Surane told dealers during the General Session in Denver. He added the deal does not prohibit Sears, which owns the Craftsman brand, from selling to big-box retailers or the mass merchants.

Denver -- The air was thick with sports metaphors during Ace Hardware's General Session of the 2011 Denver Fall Convention & Exhibits. 

Ace's top marketing and merchandising executives mixed retail strategies with quotes from Knute Rockne and Vince Lombardi during a presentation in which they described the top 10 plays for winning at retail. The session even included half-time highlights of power tools and football touchdowns.

The appearance of Craftsman tools at some Menards stores in the Midwest -- which has set off much speculation about channel exclusives for the popular brand -- is being used to liquidate discontinued items, a Sears spokesman told the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.

"Given Menards' history appealing to the heavy do-it-yourselfers ... we felt there is a natural reason to believe that Craftsman would sell effectively at Menards," said Sears Holding Corp. spokesman Larry Costello.

Freidheim, who took over the position seven months ago, is leaving on Sept. 2 “to pursue another opportunity,” the SEC filing said.
