MoistureShield, the Springdale, Ark.-based composite decking manufacturer, has expanded its presence in the Sunbelt and West Coast regions by adding 12 new distribution locations to its network.

Among the new distributors are Huttig Building Products in Phoenix, Nashville, and Jackson, Miss.; BlueLinx in Tampa, Miami and Jacksonville, Fla.; Dixie Plywood and Lumber Company in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas; Universal Forest Products in Thornton and Riverside, Calif.; and Intermountain Supply in Spokane, Wash.

Major luxury appliance retailer Elite Appliance has been authorized as a Dallas GE appliance dealer. As such, it has added GE kitchen and laundry appliances to its product selection, now available both online and at its Dallas showroom.

Of GE's kitchen appliance suites, Elite will offer the Monogram Series, Cafe Series, Artistry Series and Profile Series.

Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores has opened a new Sears Appliance & Hardware location in Dallas, Texas, that will mark the debut of a smaller-format store prototype for the brand -- as well as a spate of new franchise opportunities. 

Citing market research that favors the neighborhood hardware store model, the company announced last week that the Dallas store -- which is the first new Sears Appliance & Hardware location to be built in the past decade -- will set the standard for all new locations.

The company cites a robust housing recovery in Texas and increased demand for new products in the building materials industry.

Builders FirstSource CEO Floyd Sherman describes the three months ended June 30 as "another quarter of improving financial performance" for the Dallas-based pro dealer. However, hefty refinancing costs pushed the company to a net loss of $48.2 million in the quarter, compared with a net loss of $12.1 million in last year's second quarter.

The company reported operating income of $13.2 million, compared with an operating loss of $1.4 million in the second quarter last year.

U.S. Concrete expanded its presence in Texas via the acquisition assets belonging to Bodin Concrete, L.P. Redi-Mix, LLC, a subsidiary of U.S. Concrete, will acquire three of Bodin's ready-mixed concrete plants.

The plants, located in Wylie, Rockwall and Forney, Tex., complement Redi-Mix's exsiting presence in the Dallas/Forth Worth area.

No matter how you slice them, the numbers of the HCN Top 300 Industry Scoreboard reflect the rising housing market, increased spending on the home and an easy comparison with the previous year's performance.

Dallas-based building materials manufacturer and distributor Eagle Materials reported big sales and earnings gains for the fiscal year ended March 31.

The maker and distributor of cement, gypsum wallboard and other materials reported full year revenues of $642.6 million, an increase of 30%. Net earnings for the year were $57.7 million, up from $18.7 million a year ago.

Dallas-based Overhead Door has introduced design enhancements to three of its garage door lines.

The company created a V5 stamp that mimics the look and feel of wainscoting, which will be available on the Durafirm Collection, Traditional Steel and Thermacore lines. A raised panel Ranch stamp is also now available on the Thermacore line, while decorative window inserts have been added to the Traditional Steel Collection.

The Dallas-based pro dealer reported sales of $319.7 million for the first quarter ended March 31, up 45.7%

Dallas-based Builders FirstSource saw sales surge in the first quarter -- up 45.7% to $319.7 million.

"We were able to achieve top-line growth of greater than 30% for a sixth consecutive quarter," said CEO Floyd Sherman. "Our sales increase once again exceeded the increase in residential construction activity, as actual single-family housing starts in the South Region increased 27.4% and single-family units under construction increased 23.2%."

A specialist, an operations manager and a sales rep join Snavely in Dallas.

The company announced the addition of Lena Rink, typar specialist; David Cunningham, operations manager; and John Owens, inside sales representative.

Rink joins Snavely with more than 12 years experience in the building products industry. She brings valuable experience from Casco Industries, Bradco Supply Corp., and most recently SPEC Building Materials, according to the company.

David Cunningham brings with him 30-plus years of operations management experience from Foxworth-Galbraith.

Dallas-based Lennox International Inc. sold its Service Experts business to a majority-owned entity of American Capital.

Dallas-based Lennox International Inc. sold its Service Experts business to a majority-owned entity of American Capital.

The all-cash deal closed on March 22 and includes a two-year equipment supply agreement. Terms of the sale and supply agreement were not disclosed.

Lennox International is a global leader in the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration markets.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Dallas-based TMT Inc. with four serious safety violations of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act’s general duty clause following an aggravated robbery that resulted in the death of an employee at the company’s Whip-In convenience store in Garland, Texas.

OSHA announced the violations Nov. 19, 2012, in connection with the May 2012 death of the store clerk, who was alone at the time. She was robbed and set on fire and later died from her injuries.

Oklahoma City-based distributor Cedar Creek has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of Capital Lumber’s distribution locations in Dallas and Houston. 

In a deal expected to close Nov. 30, Capital Lumber will continue to operate eight other non-Texas distribution centers and focus on the western United States.

Builders FirstSource, the Dallas-based pro dealer, reported net sales of $291.8 million for its third fiscal quarter, an increase of 34.3% when compared with the third quarter of 2011. The company estimated that sales increased approximately 27% due to increased volume and 7% due to price.

Losses from continuing operations were $12.3 million for the quarter, which ended Sept. 30. This compares with a loss of $11.5 million in the third quarter of 2011.

The plant to be closed by Aug. 15 is located in Grand Prairie, Texas, outside of Dallas.

According to the article, no other plants are planned to be closed. About 58 people are expected to be laid off by the consolidation.

Dallas-based pro dealer Builders FirstSource has announced a new location in Clarksville, Tenn., approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville. The facility is situated on five acres and includes a 25,000-sq.-ft. warehouse. It will offer lumber, engineered I-joist systems, roof and floor trusses, windows, doors, millwork and various other building products and materials. The scheduled opening date is in early June.

CEO Floyd Sherman said the company is looking forward to expanding its footprint in northern Tennessee and southern Kentucky.
