Timberlands dealer and wood manufacturer Weyerhaeuser Co. has a new president and CEO, effective Aug. 1. Doyle Simons will be succeeding incumbent retiree Dan Fulton, who will then serve as executive vice chairman of the board of directors until his retirement in October.

Simons, who was previously chairman and CEO of Temple-Inland, is currently acting as CEO elect for Weyerhaeuser and has been serving on its board of directors since June 2012. He was also appointed RISI's 2009 North American CEO of the Year in the paper and forest products industry.

Weyerhaeuser has announced plans to enter a consortium that will study the feasibility of producing fuel for U.S. commercial and military jets from wood and wood waste in the Pacific Northwest.

The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies has named Dan Fulton, president and CEO of Weyerhaeuser, as the new chair of its Policy Advisory Board.

“I’m honored to step into the chairman position,” Fulton said. “As a longstanding member of the Policy Advisory Board, I’ve always respected the rigorous research taking place at the Joint Center. I’m looking forward to being involved on this new level.”
