The Home and Garden division of Spectrum Brands Holdings has announced its acquisition of The Liquid Fence Company, a producer of consumer animal repellents.

Spectrum Brands Holdings is following up on its plans, announced in January 2012, to move its headquarters to the Discovery Springs area of Middleton, Wis., a Madison suburb.

The move includes its world headquarters, its technology center and several North American divisional operations. More than 500 full-time employees have been implicated in the transition.

Terry L. Polistina, president of the Global Appliances division at Spectrum Brands Holdings, Inc., is stepping down following the completion of a months-long succession plan. He will continue to serve as a member of the company's Board of Directors.

Effective Sept. 30, Polistina will leave the company on the heels of a successful multi-year restructuring and integration of the Global Appliances business. His planned departure has made way for a new management structure at the company, per a succession plan outlined earlier in the year.

Despite sales gains, the consumer products company based in Madison, Wis., posted a net loss of $41.2 million.

Spectrum Brands reported a second quarter net loss of $41.2 million. This compared with a net loss of $28.7 million in the year-ago quarter.

The Madison, Wis.-based consumer products company -- including such brands as Rayovac and George Foreman Grills -- purchased Stanley’s hardware and home improvement (HHI) segment last year. Sales were $987.8 million for the three months ended March 31, up from $746.3 million.
