Snavely Forest Products announced Bryan Craig has been promoted to general manager of the Snavely Forest Denver Operation. 

Craig has been with Snavely since 2002. His responsibilities have included operations manager and assistant general manager. He brings more than 22 years of both retail and wholesale experience in the building products industry. 

Craig is replacing Mark Spargo who has since assumed the responsibilities as a National Accounts Manager.

Phoenix, Arizona-based building products distributor Capital Lumber is expanding its Denver and Salt Lake City facilities to make room for expanded product lines.

The Denver location will get 3,000 additional sq. ft. of covered storage in the form of a new cantileve-rack-supported shed.

Meanwhile, Capital is converting its warehouse in Salt Lake City to narrow isle racking for an added 720 pallet positions and 12,120 lineal feet of cantilever racking.

Capital was founded in 1948 and currently maintains eight regional distribution facilities focused in the West.

Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners is merging the assets and operations of Dacono, Colorado-based SteelStar with Barton Supply, located in Aurora, Colorado.

The alliance will enhance the combined company’s ability to serve the growing Colorado market, the companies said.

Commerce City, Colorado – A new Ace Hardware store opened here in this fast-growing Denver suburb, where the closest big box is about 10 miles away.

Inside the new Ace Hardware at Reunion (named for the neighboring housing development), the 9,000 sq.-ft. store displays three key elements to the modern Ace strategy  -- the new Paint Studio, a heavily emphasis on Craftsman, and a centrally locacted, all-purpose information desk known as the “Helpful Hub.”

DENVER — Some 4,000 people filed into the Bellco Theatre in Denver to hear the latest on True Value’s much-anticipated unveiling of its strategic plan.

As we settled into our seats, a stringed instrument quartet pounded out the heart-throbbing chords of Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir. About two hours later, president and CEO John Hartmann was driving across the stage on a dirt bike. An uninvited fire alarm interfered with his closing remarks, but the point was made: engagement, growth, efficiency — three pillars of a new True Value.

As part of a broad strategic plan, True Value unveiled a new approach to merchandising and pricing during the Chicago-based co-op’s General Session in Denver.

One takeaway: expect fewer opening price points in the True Value assortments. “No one makes money on opening-price-point product,” said Ken Goodgame, True Value’s senior VP and chief merchandise officer.

Denver -- Though many of the usual suspects were on-hand at the 2014 True Value Fall Reunion, more than one of the show floor's sizzling merchandise developments took place among the grills.

Relatively new to the hardware scene is Traeger Grills, a line of sleek wood pellet grills that now feature a Digital Pro Controller with dual meat probes, a removable grill shelf and EZ-Fold legs for added portability.

The grills can also double as convection ovens, opening the door to all kinds of possibilities that include hickory-smoked chocolate chip cookies.

Denver – True Value unveiled big plans for its advertising in 2015. In President and CEO John Hartmann's words, "the changes will be transformational, and I mean like we haven't advertised in over a decade."

Hartmann left it up to SVP & Chief Customer Officer Blake Fohl and SVP & Chief Merchandise Officer Ken Goodgame to deliver the news of an expanded national TV branding campaign. They described a national television program with ten times more spend in 2015.

Denver -- The General Session at the 2014 True Value Fall Reunion in Denver opened with a few words of inspiration from chairman of the board Brent Burger.

"As you can see from the agenda card, we have a very full program this afternoon and I promise you that it will be one of most exciting General Sessions we have ever had," said Burger, the owner of five Campbell's True Value locations in Maine.

The exhibit floor of the 2014 True Value Fall Reunion, taking place this year in Denver, Colorado, officially opens on Friday, but some early activities are already under way.

Visitors filed into the Colorado Convention Center Thursday afternoon, where drinks and hors d'oeuvres were on-hand at the Farm & Ranch Reception.

The throngs then proceeded to the show floor to get a sneak peek of this year's farm & ranch section, where feed, pet products and lawn & garden products were prominent.

Denver-based PRO Group recognized Cherokee PRO Home Center in Cherokee, North Carolina, as the 2014 Paul L. Cosgrave Memorial Award Winner.

Candler Cooper, a local businessman, and Danny Wingate of Haywood PRO Builders Supply teamed up about three years ago to fill a need in the local community by founding Cherokee PRO Home Center, according to PRO Group. 

The store serves the Cherokee community, including the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation.

Kodiak Building Partners purchased substantially all the assets of AO, Inc., a Dallas based fabricator and distributor of doors, frames and hardware to commercial contractors for the office build-out market.

The move brings Denver, Colorado-based Kodiak deeper into Texas, and follows acquisitions of Gulf & Basco and Factory Builder Stores.

Denver, Colo.-based IDS Group has released a new collection of decorative 3D wall panels and ceiling tiles that can be used interchangeably for various applications.

"The same panels were designed to be applied on the wall, dropped into a ceiling grid or glued up to the ceiling," read a company statement. "The panels are designed in such a way that you can use one panel for complete layout and design or mix in several complementary tiles that blend in to create even more unique interior decor."

Cedar Creek has made a deal to acquire Reid and Wright, a lumber and building material distributor based in Bend, Ore., with a distribution center in Broomfield, Colo.

According to Cedar Creek CEO Bill Adams, “This is a key addition for Cedar Creek as it brings new customers, quality people and great products that we’ll merge into our current Denver location.”

The agreement is expected to be completed by March 31, 2014.

Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners expanded its footprint in the gypsum distribution market with the acquisition of Jones-Heartz Drywall Supply, also of Denver. 

Jones-Heartz Drywall Supply's team of 57 people will remain in place, with Greg Lyon leading the combined drywall operations of Jones-Heartz and Great West Drywall Supply, acquired by Kodiak in 2012.
