A grant agreement between the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and Chinese company Midea will see Honeywell work to reduce the impact Midea's refrigerators and freezers have on the environment.

Honeywell will work with Midea, which manufactures appliances, to put its line of Solstice products into wider use. The main Solstice product that Midea will use is Honeywell's Liquid Blowing Agent, which expands insulation in appliances and has a lower global warming potential than more widely-used agents.

Effective April 1, PPG Industries has named Dave Cole VP packagings coatings and Anup Jain VP specialty coatings and materials.

Jain was previously serving as VP silica products. In his new role, he will be responsible for the optical monomers and coatings and OLED/specialty synthesis businesses, as well as the photochromics R&D organization. He will continue to oversee PPG's silica products business.

Cole was formerly president of Transitions Optical, in which PPG owned a majority interest stake until just recently.

Tempur Sealy International, Inc. has announced the retirement of Sealy Corporation president and CEO Lawrence Rogers, effective April 5.

Rogers will join the company's board of directors, however, on March 27, comprising the board's 11th member.

Tractor Supply Company has named Robert Mills SVP and CIO, succeeding James Callison upon his planned retirement. He will also serve on the company's Executive Committee.

Beloit, Wis.-based ABC Supply Co. promoted Todd Buehl to the position of chief financial officer and treasurer, effective April 1. Buehl, who joined ABC Supply as vice president and chief administrative officer in 2012, succeeds Kendra Story, who is retiring as chief financial officer and treasurer after nearly 32 years with the company.

San Francisco-based One Kings Lane, an online destination for the home, has appointed Arun Rajan as chief technology officer. In his new role, Rajan will lead end-to-end technology delivery, data infrastructure and site operations to support the growth and evolution of One Kings Lane. 

Rajan joins alongside chief product officer David Yu, who joined One Kings Lane in mid-2013.

Masonite International Corporation has appointed Jody L. Bilney to its board of directors, effective immediately. She will also join the board's Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee, replacing Peter Dachowski, who will continue serving on the Human Resources and Compensation Committee.

Atchison, Kan.-based hardware distributor Blish-Mize Co. announced that Jonathan D. Mize has been appointed CEO, succeeding his father, John H. Mize. 

For the past few years, the younger Mize has served as president and COO and previously served in other officer capacities. He will be the fifth generation of the Mize family to hold the title of CEO. He also serves as president & COO of Hardware House, a subsidiary of Blish-Mize Co.

Intech Equipment & Supply, a Phoenix-based roofing and insulation equipment provider, has hired Dennis Alter as southeast technical service manager.

Alter will be based in the company's Madison, Ga. location and will support its five full service branches in California, Texas, Arizona, Missouri and Arkansas, as well as coverage for some other southeastern states.

Robert Adler was named acting chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to fill a position vacated by former chairman Inez Tenenbaum. 

Adler joined the CPSC, an agency that exerts tremendous influence over the consumer packaged goods and retail industries, in 2009 when he was appointed by president Barack Obama. Prior to his appointment Adler served on the Obama Transition Team and and co-authored a report on the CPSC for the administration.

Do it Best Corp. concluded a week-long, intensive leadership training development program for a selected group of managers and leaders from among its member-owned stores.

The inaugural Leadership Development Institute (LDI) was held Nov. 12-15, at the co-op's Fort Wayne, Ind., headquarters. Twenty-three attendees took part in the training.

Brian J. Harris has been appointed CFO and Anne L. Benedict has been named chief legal officer at heavy-side building materials company Summit Materials. Harris' appointment is effective Oct. 14, while Benedict's is Oct. 1.

Harris replaces John R. Murphy, who has stepped down as interim CFO and will continue to serve as a director and chairman of the audit committee of the board of directors for Summit's indirect parent company.

Beacon Roofing Supply has appointed Jeanine Montgomery as VP and chief accounting officer, effective July 8. Montgomery is replacing current CAO Rick Welker, who will remain on board as acting CFO for approximately one month to assist with the transition.

The Canadian home improvement giant tapped a grocery industry veteran to lead its battle against U.S. rivals.

Boucherville, Quebec-based RONA named Robert Sawyer as CEO, ending its search for a permanent replacement for long-time CEO Robert Dutton, who resigned in November.

Sawyer is the former chief operating officer of Metro Inc., the Quebec-based food retailer.

Robert Chevrier, executive chairman of RONA, trumpeted Sawyer’s retail experience.

Las Vegas -- During the BMC National Meeting here at the M Resort, the Boise, Idaho-based pro dealer stressed team building and education.

BMC also identified outstanding individual performances. The 88-unit pro dealer recognized Christopher Cysensky as Platinum Salesman of the Year. Cysensky is the outside sales representative for the Pacific Northwest, working in the company's Tacoma, Wash., location. The performance-based award was given Tuesday night during the Sales Awards Ceremony and Dinner.

While searching for a permanent CFO, Peabody, Mass.-based Beacon Roofing Supply appointed Rick Welker to the position of acting CFO.

Welker is currently the company's VP and chief accounting officer. He replaces David Grace, who retired a the end of 2012.

Ace Hardware Corp.’s paint program is going through a major makeover with Valspar stepping up as a supplier and taking over the co-op’s paint manufacturing facilities. 

Ace and Valspar announced a long-term deal, under which Valspar will manufacture and supply Ace-branded paint products to Ace dealers. The companies also announced that Valspar has acquired Ace Hardware’s paint manufacturing assets, including two manufacturing facilities located near Chicago.

Window and door manufacturer Andersen has named Jay Lund, its president and CEO since March 2011, as its new chairman of the board. Lund will replace chairman Jim Humphrey, who officially retires from his board role on Feb. 22, 2013, as part of a planned transition. Humphrey joined Andersen in 1999, served as president and CEO from 2003 to 2011 and was named chairman of the board in February 2008. He joined Andersen following a 31-year career at Armstrong World Industries.

Denis Abrams, CEO of paint maker Benjamin Moore, was fired from his job over a  dinner cruise to Bermuda that was charged to the company’s tab, according to an article in the New York Post. A group of officials from parent company Berkshire Hathaway, owned by billionaire Warren Buffet, showed up at the paint company’s Montvale, N.J., office two weeks ago and escorted Abrams from the building, the Post reported.

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based hardware co-op Do it Best Corp. announced Wednesday a changing of the guard as two longtime executives will retire effective June 30.

Dave Haist, executive VP and COO, and Dave Dietz, VP finance, will be replaced by Dan Starr and Doug Roth -- Starr as executive VP and COO and Roth as VP finance.

Currently, Starr is VP human resources, while Roth is director of financial reporting.

Stanley introduced a new carbide utility blade that it says lasts more than five times longer than competing blades.

The key to the product is Carbide Blade Technology, which provides increased blade life, maintains first-cut sharpness and offers snap resistance.

Mead Lumber, the regional LBM chain with locations in seven Midwestern states, has purchased four locations of Fullerton Building Center, according to an announcement on its website.  

The stores are located in Yankton, S.D., and Vermillion, Winner, and Norfolk, Neb. Fullerton will still operate its lumberyards in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Tim-Br Marts has appointed John Steen as CFO. A senior financial executive, Steen has operational experience across a range of sectors, primarily in agribusiness/retail, manufacturing, oil and gas, and energy.

Steen, who will be based out of the company’s Calgary, AB office, will report directly to president and CEO Tim Urquhart.

He has held executive roles at a number of organizations, including UFA Co-operative Limited, Ontario Power Authority, and in South Africa at Teves Group.
