Forth Worth, Texas-based homebuilder D.R. Horton, Inc. reported robust growth in the first quarter of fiscal 2014, with net income up 86% year-over-year.

Homebuilding revenue for the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 2013 was up 33% to $1.63 billion since the first quarter of last year. Additionally, home closings were up 19%. In total, net revenue was $1.64 billion, compared to $1.23 billion year-over-year.

Net income came in at $123.2 million, up dramatically since last year's $66.3 million.

Fort Worth, Texas-based ECi Software Solutions has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing U.S.-based companies.

It's the fifth year for ECi to make the list.

Fort Worth, Texas-basd ECi Software Solutions fourth-quarter sales were up 78% compared with same period last year. For the full year, sales were up 44%, the company reported Wednesday morning.

Former Ace Hardware CFO Dorvin Lively was elevated to the position of interim CEO of RadioShack, after the Fort Worth, Texas-based electronics retailer’s CEO James Gooch stepped down.

A little more than a year ago, Dorvin Lively left Ace and joined RadioShack as CFO. He joined Ace as senior VP and CFO in 2008 and was promoted to executive VP in December 2010.

Fort Worth, Texas-based home builder D.R. Horton has acquired the homebuilding operations of Breland Homes, which operates in Huntsville, Mobile and Baldwin County in Alabama and along the gulf coast of Mississippi. The home-building operating assets included about 320 homes in inventory and 1,020 finished lots. D.R. Horton will also control an additional 3,700 lots through option contracts.

The City of Fort Worth, Texas, has announced that it will hold do-it-yourself help sessions for dealing with mosquitoes and the threat of West Nile virus at a number of Home Depot and Lowe’s locations.

Tarrant county residents can attend Saturday and Sunday classes at Lowe's or Home Depot on Aug. 25 and 26. (The weekend seminars began in early August.) Classes will focus on mosquito eradication and methods for eliminating nesting areas in and around homes, apartments or condos.

Performing in a tough business environment was one of the themes at the LMC annual meeting held this month in Fort Worth, Texas. 

“The essence of LMC is the collective strength of our dealers,” said John Somerville, LMC’s president and CEO, during his general session remarks. “Obstacles abound, but the strength of our dealers, suppliers and our staff has allowed us to beat expectations. While single-family housing starts declined 9% in 2011, LMC’s sales finished up 5% from 2010.”

Fort Worth, Texas-based eCommerce Industries has announced that Ace Hardware has given its final certification to ECi’s RockSolid POS business system software for integration with the Ace Rewards program. Ace Rewards is a retail incentive program that awards points based on dollars spent and provides members advanced notice of sales, members-only coupons and allows them to submit rebates online.

A product aimed at protecting the copper coils on air conditioning units has been released by a Dallas-Fort Worth firm. Called the CopperWatcher, the device triggers a home or commercial building’s existing alarm system when copper thieves shut down the AC’s high voltage power in order to disconnect the unit’s condenser tubing.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Pier 1 Imports saw comparable-store sales increase 8.9% in the fourth quarter ended Feb. 26.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Pier 1 Imports saw comparable-store sales increase 8.9% in the fourth quarter ended Feb. 26. For the full year, comparable-store sales surged 10.9%, compared with an increase of 1.5% in the prior year.

CEO Alex Smith called 2010 "truly an exceptional year," as the retailer achieved annual operating income for the first time in six years. 

In the fourth quarter, Pier 1 reported net income of $57.1 million, compared with last year’s fourth quarter net income of $34.5 million. Total sales were $426.6 million, up 7.7%.

Posting its fifth consecutive quarter in the black, Fort Worth, Texas-based Pier 1 Imports reported third-quarter sales of $353.8 million, up from $327.1 million in the same three months last year.

Comp-store sales for the quarter increased 10.2%.

"With sales and margins exceeding our expectations and the overall leveraging of expenses, we are reporting net income for our fifth consecutive quarter," said Alex W. Smith, president and CEO.
