Concrete projects tend to conjure images of big guys in trucks. But executives at Quikrete are taking steps to make sure DIYers have plenty of project ideas for themselves.

And the work is paying off in places like Pinterest and Facebook, according to Frank Owens, VP marketing for the Atlanta-based concrete industry leader.

During a media tour of New York this week, Owens helped spread the word that there are plenty of projects in and around the house for Quikrete products.

Across the country, and across a broad spectrum of industries, advertisements sporting mobile bar codes are becoming an increasingly familiar sight. QR codes — quick response codes — are the most common of a few types of bar codes that consumers can scan using a pre-downloaded smartphone app. The bar codes may appear on anything from posters to packaging to catalogs and, when scanned, lead consumers to a specific set of information, often through a mobile website.

The trend of making things easy for the do-it-yourselfer is finding a place in Quikrete's lineup of new products. The company's Zip & Mix Repair Mortar is a multi-purpose mortar that eliminated the need for a pail. 

Consumers simply unzip the package, break the protective seal, add 10 ounces of water to the mortar and knead the package thoroughly. The product is described as easy to sculpt during the application with a 4,500 psi strength when finished.
