In Hartville, Ohio, sits America's largest independent home center at 305,000 sq. ft. In the middle of Hartville Hardware sits a house constructed entirely of U.S.-made products — from the foundation to the sheet rock, paint and appliances.

"There's definitely been an increase in people wanting to buy U.S.-made products," says Howard Miller, president of Hartville Hardware, a member of the Do it Best co-op. "General Electric makes washers and dryers in the U.S. and people love that. They're asking for U.S.-made all the time."

After a soft opening last April, Hartville Hardware held its official grand opening on July 13 and 14, making it the largest independent home center in the country. An article in the Akron Beacon Journal described the seven-acre complex as having 305,000 sq. ft. of retail space on two floors with six different entrances and cash register areas. There is also a three-lane drive-through lumber area.

After two years of planning, Hartville Hardware opened its doors yesterday with some 245,000 square feet of retail space.

Inside the massive seven-acre facility, customers find a log cabin, a drive-through lumberyard, house facades, and a farm and pet area, an idea house with American-made products.
