Voters in 38 states will consider 174 statewide ballot measures on Nov. 6, 2012, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). These proposals are wide-ranging, with a number of them having potential workplace implications.

Questions appear on the ballots in more than one state concerning:

• Medical marijuana use;
• Legalization of marijuana; and
• Same-sex marriage.

The 2012 crop of Home Channel News Hardware Store All-Stars marks the second year of the state-by-state accounting of high-performance retailers. The common theme of “excellent customer service” runs through the entire list, but that’s just the beginning.

City Mill Co. plans to open a new store in Ewa Beach, Oahu, Hawaii, at the Laulani Village Shopping Center.

As the second anchor store, City Mill will encompass 40,000 sq. ft. with a 5,000-sq.-ft. area for additional garden, lumber and building materials. The new store is expected to open in late 2012. It will be the company's ninth store.

Allied Building Products Corp. has recently completed three acquisitions: Ivan Supply Co.; the Smyrna, Ga., branch of American Wholesale; and Pacific Source.

Philadelphia-based Ivan Supply Co. is a privately held, four-branch distributor of roofing and siding. It was founded in 1981 by Ivan Tancredi.

Weyerhaeuser’s iLevel division will begin distributing James Hardie fiber cement siding and trim products through its Pacific Northwest service centers, the company has announced, making the products available to iLevel customers in western Washington, Oregon and Hawaii.

James Hardie products are currently sold through iLevel’s network of distribution centers into 20 markets.
