Mohawk is recalling its Altitude Gold shag rugs that are sold exclusively at Home Depot, citing a failure to meet federal flammability standards.

Specifically, the rugs do not meet federal labeling standards, which require rugs to have the following statement on a permanent lablel: “FLAMMABLE (FAILS U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE STANDARD FF 2-70): SHOULD NOT BE USED NEAR SOURCES OF IGNITION.”

Highlights of the Home Depot fourth-quarter merchandise lineup include a remote-controlled, pre-lit Christmas tree that shines in 56 light and color options. The season will also bring stocking stuffers like carbide-tipped reciprocal saw blades from Diablo and 21 new Kohler SKUs.

Another quarter, another billion-and-a half dollars in earnings for the world’s largest home improvement retailer.

In spite of a widespread data breach and with a new CEO at the helm, the Home Depot reported sales of $20.5 billion for the third quarter of fiscal 2014, a 5.4% increase from the third quarter of fiscal 2013. Comparable store sales for the third quarter of fiscal 2014 were positive 5.2%, and comp sales for U.S. stores were positive 5.8%.

Home Depot’s efforts to court loyalty among its pro customers now includes a special Black Friday showcase.

The Atlanta-based retailer will showcase its pre-Black Friday savings for Pro customers at Pro Appreciation Events Nov. 20 at all U.S. stores. The company says pros will have access to exclusive pre-Black Friday savings on products from brands including DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, RIDGID and Porter-Cable.

The event is part of a quarterly commitment by the retailer to honor its Pro customers, which make up 40% of its business.

Fiskars is recalling its 32" Bypass Lopper Shears, which are sold exclusively at Home Depot, due to a laceration hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the handles can break during use, which can potentially cause injury and laceration.

The shears have the model number 6954 and can be identified by their 32-inch dark orange steel handles and black rubber grips, which have a gray strip.

Some familiar names have been recognized for their efforts to fight climate change by the environmental non-profit CDP, which just released its annual CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report for 2014.

A couple clear leaders included Stanley Black & Decker and The Home Depot, with the former earning the highest possible score of "A" for its climate performance assessment and a 100 for its climate disclosure assessment (Stanley provided relevant information to 767 investors at their request).

The Home Depot confirmed late Thursday afternoon that the malware that breached its payment systems was now erased, and that the breach is now thought to have affected as many as 56 million cards.

The Home Depot’s latest update confirms what many had suspected – the data systems of the world’s largest home improvement retailer have been breached.

The impact and scope of the breach remains unclear, but the retailer said the breach “could potentially impact customers using payment cards at its U.S. and Canadian stores.”

The Atlanta-based company reiterated that no customers will be liable for fraudulent charges. Customers will also be offered free ID protection, including credit-monitoring services.

The Atlanta-based retailer is looking into the matter and also working with law enforcement and bank investigators.

Yardi, a real estate investment software company based in Santa Barbara, California, has linked up with The Home Depot to give its clients easier access to the retailer's products.

Yardi customers can now easily order Home Depot products in-store or online via the Yardi Procure to Pay online procurement and invoice processing system.

Using the system, property owners and managers can have their purchase orders and invoices automated online, allowing them to more intuitively manage their purchases and check for compliance.
