Scranton, Pa.-based CPG International Inc. agreed to acquire TimberTech, a subsidiary of the Crane Group and manufacturer of decking, railing and accessory products.

CPG International is the parent company of AZEK Building Products, a leading manufacturer of premium, low-maintenance exterior products that includes decking, railing, porch boards, trim, moldings and recycled composite pavers.

An investigation into the death of a Michigan bathtub refinisher in 2010 has uncovered more than a dozen other fatalities that may be related to the same chemical compound. In the Feb. 24 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, a publication by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, researchers looked at the effect of methylene chloride, a paint-stripping product for aircraft maintenance marketed for use in aircraft maintenance.

The city of Glendale, Calif., has began enforcing a prohibition on synthetic turf for front lawns, according to an article in the Glendale News Press

The Glendale ban has been in place for three months, according to the article, but code enforcement officers have recently issued six violation notices to property owners who refused to remove the artificial turf from their front yards. Faux grass in the backyard is permitted, however.

Dalton, Ga.-based SYNLawn has begun selling its brand of residential synthetic grass at 463 Lowe's stores.

The new program is a continuation of a trial offering conducted in Lowe’s stores in five states earlier this year.  SYNLawn will provide rolls of synthetic turf in the most popular sizes, along with basic installation tools for Lowe’s customers who need smaller amounts of turf and want to install it themselves.

Masco Bath, a producer of showers, bathtubs and whirlpools, was given the  “Unsung Hero” award at the Lowe's Fashion Plumbing vendor forum. Masco was honored for the research, design and execution of new merchandising concepts for the bathing aisle and accessible home special order areas. These merchandising concepts have been included in the Lowe's "store of the future" layout, according to the announcement.

With child safety in mind, Blinds Chalet is promoting free retrofit kits available through the Window Covering Safety Council. 

“Children’s safety is a top priority for Blinds Chalet,” said Chris Stanley of Blinds Chalet. “Every year we do our best to educate parents and parents-to-be about the need for cordless blinds in baby and children’s rooms, as well as play rooms."

Cordless blinds safety awareness also applies to pets.
