Ideal Industries, a manufacturer of tools and suppliers for electrical contractors, has named Jim James as the vice chairman of its board of directors. James, who also serves as president and CEO, will assume these additional duties immediately.

James joined Ideal Industries in August 2008 as president and CEO. Previous to that, he served as president of ITW Building Components Group, a division of Illinois Tool Works.

Wilsonart International, a maker of countertops and sinks, has named Kristen Manos as its new president. She replaces Bill Gaetano, who announced his retirement late last year. DiGaetano has been president of Wilsonart since 2005 and is a 33-year veteran of the Temple, Texas, company.

After a series of talks, Illinois Tool Works (ITW) has agreed to give Relational Investors, the activist investment firm, an option to appoint its co-founder to ITW’s board of directors.

Based in San Diego, Relational Investors typically buys stocks in companies it wants a role in managing, including a seat on the board of directors. Proposals often include change in executive compensation salaries and a boost in shareholder values.

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) announced it is ready to release the second edition of its Scope of the LBM Industry Report.

The report was originally created in 2009 to help the industry with benchmarking, planning and understanding industry trends. The second edition of the report brings an increased focus on statistical trends with comparisons to the earlier edition.
