Describing its third-quarter performance as record-breaking, Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware Corp. reported total revenues of $1.13 billion for the third quarter of 2014, an increase of 9.1%, from the third quarter of 2013.

Net income was $37.3 million for the third quarter of 2014, up 8.4%.

Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware Corporation hired Steve Locanto as corporate controller. Reporting to Ace’s Chief Financial Officer Bill Guzik, Locanto will oversee a broad range of financial matters, including internal and external financial reporting, internal controls, operational accounting and systems.

Midwest building products distributor Arrowhead Building Supply is preparing for the grand opening of its new facility -- an 8,000-sq.-ft. showroom in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Located just 15 miles from St. Louis, the facility will be the seven-unit company’s easternmost distributor. Arrowhead serves contractors in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas.

Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware has been honored with an award from the Professional Association for Customer Experience (PACE). 

Ace has earned the Customer Experience Award for Corporate Customer Commitment. 

The first-ever award of its kind, this recognition is given to individual companies that demonstrate exceptional experiences for their customers, employees and community. It is designed to recognize the best and the brightest in the customer engagement industry, according to the announcement.

Mt. Prospect, Illinois-based Skilsaw Power Tools has rebranded itself with a new logo and the introduction of two new direct drive Sidewinder circular saws.

The new brand identity draws on the company's heritage as the inventor of the circular saw in 1924: the logo design features an iconic "diamond knockout" from a worm drive saw blade.

Lisle, Illinois-based The Vendor Center announced an alliance with Val-Test Group.

Under the partnership, Val-Test Vendors will be able to use the secure business-to-business website to allow qualified independent retailers to access a wide range of vendor information, including pricing, catalogs, educational and demonstrational videos, and even order products online with all billing processing via their Val-Test distributors.

Illinois-based The Vendor Center will be attending the 2015 Executive Planning Conference hosted by Distribution America. 

The new business-to-business secure website will be presented to Distribution America member distributors and vendors.

The International Housewares Association named Gary Seehoff as vice chairman and chairman elect of the Rosemont, Illinois-based industry association.

Sehoff is the CEO of Evriholder Products, which he founded in 1994 after inventing its first two products: the Twirl A Tie and the Twirl A Belt. Today, the company is one of the largest distributors of housewares impulse products in the kitchen, barware, cleaning, storage and bath and personal care categories.

The Home Improvement Research Institute’s 2014 Fall Conference will include a presentation from RBC Capital markets managing director Joshua Rosenbaum.

The event will take place Oct. 16 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois.

Rosenbaum, a frequent and popular presenter at HIRI conferences, will address: “The Economy, Wall Street and Deal-Making: Implications for Home Improvement.”

The International Housewares Association, the Rosemont, Illinois-based trade group for the housewares industry, announced that Dave Elliott, general manager, KitchenAid Global Small Appliances has been elected IHA chairman of the board.

Elliott joined Whirlpool Corp. in February 2009. Whirlpool is the parent company of KitchenAid and the largest manufacturer of major and small appliances in the world. Before joining Whirlpool, he worked for Jarden Corp. from 1997 to 2009, where he was VP of global marketing with responsibility for personal comfort and wellness products.

PPG Industries has completed the sale of substantially all the assets of its Mount Zion, Illinois, glass manufacturing facility to automotive glass manufacturer Fuyao Glass America.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fuyao plans to rebuild and retrofit the facility’s two production lines to manufacture automotive glass. PPG will continue to operate the plant for up to one year, producing Sungate coated glass and clear glass.

The release of the new Dremel Micro 8050 is being hailed as more than just a run-of-the-mill product launch. According to the Mount Prospect, Illinois-based company, the 8050 is "the most powerful and precise compact cordless rotary tool Dremel has yet to produce."

"The Micro 8050 represents a new evolution in the rotary tool category that offers precise control with surprising power," said Ed Pchola, product director for Dremel. "It fills a need for a multifunctional tool for people who engage in hands-on, detailed activities."

Aurora, Ill.-based LBM dealer Alexander Lumber Co. named Russell Kathrein as CEO and president.

Kathrein has 25 years of experience in the lumber and building material industry, including senior management positions at 84 Lumber, BMC West, and most recently, ProBuild.

Alexander Lumber operates 20 yards in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin, along with two truss plants and a counter-top facility.

Freight transportation provider Hub Group is the recipient of Sears Holdings’ Partners in Transformation award, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company announced Friday.

"Hub Group has been a proud transportation provider for Sears Holdings since 1990," Hub Group chairman and CEO David P. Yeager said. "It is an honor to receive this award and it has been a pleasure to watch our relationship grow steadily from hard work and dedication on both sides."

Mathias Klein III will retire as chairman of the board of Lincolnshire, Illinois-based Klein Tools  in June, 2015 but will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors.

Lincolnshire, Illinois-based Klein Tools hired James Pultorak as VP manufacturing. He will replace Chris Hargan, current senior VP manufacturing, who will retire at the end of 2014.

Pultorak brings over 20 years of experience in manufacturing and operations in a variety of industries, including hand tools, tool storage, printing, packaging, roofing and automotive.

Klein Tools released the new Switch Drive Handle System to easily alternate any accessory with a power groove between a power tool and hand tool.

While power drills can make quick work of large fastening jobs, a screwdriver is still needed for those times when you need the finesse of a hand tool, the Lincolnshire, Illinois-based company explained. Klein’s new Switch Drive Handle System allows end users to switch between a power drill and hand tool minimizing the number of tools and saving space.

PPG Industries is moving forward with its plans to sell the assets of its Mt. Zion, Illinois glass manufacturing facility to its partner of 13 years, glass manufacturer Fuyao Glass America Inc.

In Fuayo's hands, the facility (which currently manufactures glass for residential and commercial projects) will be retrofitted to produce automotive glass.

Barrington, Illinois-based EcoPlanet Bamboo Group has nabbed three former Weyerhaeuser executives in its latest hiring spree.

Of these, former Weyerhaeuser Solutions president Marvin Risco has been named group president. He has held multiple positions at Weyerhaeuser over the years, ranging from financial director for Weyerhaeuser Forestlands International to VP international operations in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware Corporation made some updates to its corporate board of directors, not the least of which includes the planned appointment of Jim Ackroyd as chairman.

Ackroyd is the CEO of Vision Ace Hardware, an 11-store chain in southwest Florida. He was named vice chairman last year as part of a planned changeover within the chairman position. As a member of Ace's board since 2008, he was also re-elected to another three-year term as a member director.
