Kubota Corp. has appointed Masato Yoshikawa as the new president of Kubota Tractor Corporation (KTC), based in Torrance, Calif.

Yoshikawa is a 32-year Kubota veteran and most recently held the position of general manager, corporate planning and control department for Kubota Corporation, headquartered in Osaka, Japan.

Weyerhaeuser will soon produce oriented strand board (OSB) for export to Japan, the company has announced. The OSB panels are used in both residential and commercial construction in Japan, as wall and roof sheathing and as structural flooring panels.

Weyerhaeuser is selling its hardwoods and industrial products business unit to American Industrial Partners (AIP).

AIP announced the "definitive agreement" Wednesday and said the deal should close in August.  The new business will operate as Northwest Hardwoods Inc., headquartered in Tacoma, Wash., with operations in the United States, Canada, China, Japan and Hong Kong.

Nearly two months since the tragic Japanese earthquake and tsunami, the issue of power-tool supply-chain was raised during a Stanley Black & Decker conference call.

Stanley President and CEO John Lundgren said to the extent that there may be difficulties getting product from Japan, they would appear in the second quarter.

Firms interviewed by the newspaper said they are receiving a threefold increase in phone calls, particularly in Southern California, where the Northridge earthquake caused 60 deaths and 5,000 injuries in 1994.
