The home furnishings retailer has secured contractors for its Kansas City-area store slated to open in the second half of 2014.

Home-furnishings giant IKEA announced that it hired contractor for its Kansas City-area store, expected to open in the fall of 2014. 

The 359,000-sq.-ft. store will be built in Merriam, Kan. There are currently 38 IKEA stores in the United States.

IKEA has chosen JE Dunn Construction to serve as construction manager for the store, parking structure and site development.

Home improvement retailer Menards is postponing its plans to enter the Kansas City market over concerns that “economic conditions will worsen,” according to an article in The Kansas City Star.

Company spokesman Jeff Abbott told the newspaper the Eau Claire, Wis.-based company will not be building planned units in Belton, Mo.; Kansas City Northland and Overland Park, Kan.

Midwest hardware retailer Nuts and Bolts will open a new location in Overland Park, Kan., April 26.

As previously reported, the store in the Kansas City area will be the company’s fifth location, and will occupy a building vacated by a sporting goods retailer. The new, 16,000 square foot Nuts and Bolts hardware store will adopt the Destination True Value format, design and merchandising concepts. 

The store is planning an official grand opening ceremony May 26-28.

The Overland Park, Kan.-based hardware store plans to open its fifth location next month, according to The Kansas City Star.

A sixth location for the company is also being scouted.

A 16,000-sq.-ft. store will be the operator’s third location in Overland Park. Plans are for the store to open in mid-April, according to the article.

Later in the summer, a store might open in Shawnee, but no deal has been cemented. Nuts and Bolts also currently operates in Independence and Bonner Springs.

Nuts and Bolts True Value will open its fourth Kansas City-area hardware store location this weekend with a store in Bonner Springs, Kan.

"Securing this space was top priority in order to continue growth and provide the best customer service in Kansas City," the company said in a press release.

Brian Linch will be store manager and will oversee the opening celebration weekend set for May 26 to 28. The event will include live demos and giveaways.
