A Marin County California judge ordered Mooresville, North Carolina-based Lowe’s to pay a $1.6 million settlement over a lawsuit alleging the inaccurate description of structural dimensional building products.

One upshot of the settlement is the intention of Lowe’s to include the actual product dimensions of 2x4 lumber (1.5 inches by 3.5 inches) along with the description of the product as a “2x4.”

A Lowe’s spokeswoman told HCN that various blogs covering the story about a Lowe’s data breach inaccurately implied that consumers were affected. 

That’s not the case, said Karen Cobb, manager of corporate public relations for the Mooresville, North Carolina-based retail giant.

“This situation affected only documentation of employees approved to drive Lowe’s-owned vehicles and in no way contained any customer data,” she said.

Federal authorities are looking into a fatal accident that occurred at a Lowe’s store in Enterprise, Ala., the company has confirmed. The victim, who has not been identified, was pinned between a delivery truck and a trailer and was airlifted to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. 

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident. Karen Cobb, a spokeswoman for Lowe’s, said the cause has not yet been determined.
