As part of a broad strategic plan, True Value unveiled a new approach to merchandising and pricing during the Chicago-based co-op’s General Session in Denver.

One takeaway: expect fewer opening price points in the True Value assortments. “No one makes money on opening-price-point product,” said Ken Goodgame, True Value’s senior VP and chief merchandise officer.

Denver – True Value unveiled big plans for its advertising in 2015. In President and CEO John Hartmann's words, "the changes will be transformational, and I mean like we haven't advertised in over a decade."

Hartmann left it up to SVP & Chief Customer Officer Blake Fohl and SVP & Chief Merchandise Officer Ken Goodgame to deliver the news of an expanded national TV branding campaign. They described a national television program with ten times more spend in 2015.

Atlanta – An information-packed general session here at the True Value Reunion included up-close interviews with a new slate of senior executives and an update on the co-op’s long-running strategic planning effort.

And there was also a little comedy on the stage, as actors impersonated shoppers experiencing BBTSD, or “big box traumatic stress disorder.”

True Value Co. senior VP and chief merchandising officer Mike Clark will retire from the co-op after serving in an advisory role through the end of the year.

Clark's post will be filled by former Ace Hardware executive Ken Goodgame, the co-op announced Tuesday.

Chicago-based True Value Co., which took on a new CEO in May, announced the arrival of three new executives to the co-op's leadership team.

The restructuring brings Ken Goodgame, a former Ace executive, to True Value as senior VP and chief merchandising officer. He will replace Mike Clark, who announced his retirement. Also, Abhinav Shukla joins True Value as senior VP and COO; and Tim Mills becomes the company's new senior VP of growth.

Even before Ace Hardware Corp. reported high single-digit sales increases for the quarter and the year — and even during a lingering housing downturn — CEO Ray Griffith told dealers that he liked the position in which Ace finds itself.

“Ongoing uncertainly keeps consumers cautious about spending, but many of you are doing well,” he told the members gathered in Denver for the co-op’s market last year.

Denver -- The air was thick with sports metaphors during Ace Hardware's General Session of the 2011 Denver Fall Convention & Exhibits. 

Ace's top marketing and merchandising executives mixed retail strategies with quotes from Knute Rockne and Vince Lombardi during a presentation in which they described the top 10 plays for winning at retail. The session even included half-time highlights of power tools and football touchdowns.
