Go to any website that shows required insulation levels by Climate Zone, and you won’t find recommendations for foam over batts, or batts over cellulose. Instead, you’ll see target R-values. It’s the builder’s job to select the materials to hit that target, balancing budgets with preferences.

USG Corp. has entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of its wholly owned European business operations to affiliates of Gebr. Knauf Verwaltungsgesellschaft KG for approximately $80 million. That amount is subject to adjustment based on working capital and net debt levels at closing.

The businesses being sold include the manufacture and distribution of Donn brand ceiling grid and Sheetrock brand finishing compounds throughout Europe, Russia and Turkey.

Knauf Insulation, the Shelbyville, Ind.-based manufacturer, has filed a patent infringement action against CertainTeed Corp. in an Indiana federal court. According to the lawsuit, Knauf Insulation mineral wool is made with ECOSE technology, a sustainable binder technology based on rapidly renewable bio-based materials rather than petroleum-based chemicals commonly used in traditional fiberglass insulation products.
