Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners has agreed to purchase the assets of Factory Builder Stores, a large independent specialty distributor of appliances and cabinets based in Houston.

Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners expanded its footprint in the gypsum distribution market with the acquisition of Jones-Heartz Drywall Supply, also of Denver. 

Jones-Heartz Drywall Supply's team of 57 people will remain in place, with Greg Lyon leading the combined drywall operations of Jones-Heartz and Great West Drywall Supply, acquired by Kodiak in 2012.

No matter how you slice them, the numbers of the HCN Top 300 Industry Scoreboard reflect the rising housing market, increased spending on the home and an easy comparison with the previous year's performance.

Of the leading 300 home channel retailers, 277 show positive sales in the most recently completed finished fiscal year, and 12 show declines. Eleven others are listed as flat.

Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners has acquired the assets of Gulf & Basco, a specialty dealer of building products based in Houston. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The one-unit pro dealer sells windows, kitchen cabinets, appliances, countertops and doors. A family-owned operation, Gulf & Basco has been in business for 75 years.

Several former executives from ProBuild Holdings, led by former CEO Paul Hylbert, have announced their plans to form a building materials distribution company called Kodiak Building Partners.
