Leviton has announced the purchase of Home Automation Inc. (HAI), a privately held company that provides controls for residential and light commercial applications. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. HAI will enhance Leviton’s current home automation offerings by offering homeowners solutions that combine security, energy management and entertainment controls in user-friendly applications.

Leviton Manufacturing Co. has prevailed in a dispute over intellectual property rights involving Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs). On April 27, the International Trade Commission (ITC) issued a general exclusion order “prohibiting the unlicensed importation of infringing ground fault circuit interrupters and products containing same.” In addition, the ITC issued several cease and desist orders prohibiting the sale of GFCIs already in the United States that unlawfully infringe on a Leviton U.S. patent.

Melville, N.Y.-based Leviton, manufacturer of electrical devices, promoted Marvin Hagemeier to the position of director of commercial and industrial sales for the Western Region.

Hagemeier joined Leviton in 1985 as an electrical distribution sales representative in East and Central Texas, and was promoted to Electrical Distribution Sales Manager for the Dallas District in 1992. In 2010 he assumed the role of South Central Regional Sales Manager.

Hagemeier will succeed Izzy Oleinik, who after a career of 23 years with Leviton, retired on January 1, 2012.

Regardless of federal or state subsidies, the home product marketplace continues to generate product innovation that increases efficiency and value for the energy-conscious consumer.

Melville, N.Y.-based Leviton, a manufacturer of electrical devices, data center connectivity solutions and lighting energy management systems, launched its newly redesigned website.

The new leviton.com offers step-by-step installation videos, tips and interactive discussion forums, including installation procedures and best uses for various Leviton products.

Melville, N.Y.-based Leviton Manufacturing has acquired Obvius, a provider of solutions to collect energy information.

According to Leviton, the Obvius acquisition allows the company to offer the most complete line of lighting and energy management solutions. A complementary strategic addition to Leviton’s current line, Leviton now offers solutions to meet all measurement and verification-based opportunities, such as smart metering, energy data information, load management and LEED rating achievement.

Peter Kleinman has been promoted to the position of director of marketing for Leviton’s distribution channel.  

In his new post, he will be reporting to William W. Marshall, Leviton’s senior VP sales and marketing. Kleinman will lead the marketing, branding and advertising for the company’s full line of products across the distribution sales channel.

Leviton has launched a campaign to encourage homeowners and businesses to evaluate their lighting control needs in order to make the kinds of decision that could make a difference in energy consumption. 

The "Make the Switch" campaign in support of Earth Day 2011 includes the educational campaign "10 Smart Tips for a Greener Home.' Among the tips:

• Dimming lights 25% cuts energy usage by 20% and extends a bulbs life four times longer;

Lighting manufacturer Leviton has announced the appointment of Steve Nikrant to the position of VP supply chain. Nikrant will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and recommending policy and procedures for the distribution, transportation, order fulfillment, procurement/sourcing and customer service functions.  He will also be accountable for ensuring customer satisfaction and controlling costs.

Levitons's new line of Renu decorative switches, outlets and wall plates is designed to give new control to DIYers when matching these products to the colors of their rooms.

The Renu line comes in 20 different colors including basics such as "white on white" and more colorful hues such as "red delicious" and "toasted coconut." The faceplates are easily interchangeable, snapping in and out as needed without touching the electrical parts behind the wall, according to Leviton.
