Carter Lumber, the 144-unit pro dealer based in Kent, Ohio, is bringing the employees and operations of its Medina, Ohio, location into its Carter-Jones Lumber location in Akron,

The company says the Medina facility is closing and consolidating in Akron because it outgrew the confines of its 4-acre location. The Akron facility measures 17 acres, and it will be rebranded as Carter Lumber.

RPM Performance Coatings Group, a Medina, Ohio, holding company that owns consumer brands Zinsser, Rust-Oleum, DAP and Varathane, has purchased API, an Italian flooring and deck coating business. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Based in Genoa, Italy, API is a $28 million company that produces and installs epoxy and polyurethane flooring systems for the Italian building market. It specializes decking solutions for cruise ships, mega-yachts and naval applications.

Worthington Industries has acquired BernzOmatic, a manufacturer and marketer of hand-held torches, solder and related items, from Irwin Industrial Tool Co. Specifically, the acquisition was made by the Pressure Cylinders segment of Worthington Industries. BernzOmatic manufactures from locations in Medina, N.Y., and Winston-Salem, N.C.

RPM International, the maker of Rust-Oleum, DAP, Zinsser, and other building products, reported $1.9 million in net income for its third fiscal quarter, swinging from a loss of $9.4 million in the same quarter of 2010.

RPM International, the maker of Rust-Oleum, DAP, Zinsser and other building products, reported $1.9 million in net income for its third fiscal quarter, swinging from a loss of $9.4 million in the same quarter of 2010. 

Sales for the Medina, Ohio-based manufacturer were $679 million for the third quarter, compared with $666.5 million a year ago. 

RPM deconsolidated its specialty products unit at the end of its previous fiscal year on May 31, 2010. This eliminated about $300 million in annual revenue from the company's industrial segment in June.
