Cologne, Germany -- From the International Hardware Fair in Cologne, Germany, a torque wrench, a cutting plier and triple-blade cutting tool earned innovation awards.

Koelnmesse, organizer of the 2012 International Hardware Fair, and the Central Hardware Trade Association (ZHH) jointly awarded the “EISEN 2012” innovation prize for the top tool products, industrial supplies, fastening and connection systems and fittings.

The new DeWalt hammer packs a punch. The carefully designed all-steel 15 oz. DWHT51138 model strikes like a 28-oz. hammer, according to DeWalt. The lightweight heavy hitter also has a magnetic nail starter along the head and vibration absorption built into the grip. (dewalt.com)

West Chester, Pa.-based Metabo Corp., a manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives, introduced the W2000 9-in. angle grinder.

This new large angle grinder, featuring the same quality and performance as other Metabo tools, is lighter and more economical than other grinders in its class, according to the manufacturer.

DeWalt unveiled its 15-ounce Framing Hammer with an innovative construction process that combines an all-steel head with a lightweight hammer.

During the company's new product luncheon at the Westin Times Square, Dennis Danville, leader of DeWalt's assembly demolition business unit, said the hammers employ MIG Weld Technology to lower the weight of the hammer head.

Towson, Md.-based Porter-Cable has launched two new corded products: a 7 AMP 1/2-in. two-speed hammerdrill (PC70THD) and a 7 AMP 4 1/2-in. small angle grinder/cut-off tool (PC60TPAG). Both the hammerdrill and small angle grinder are designed to offer aggressive performance and a compact, lightweight platform to professionals who are looking for corded power on the jobsite.

Towson, Md.-based Porter-Cable announced its sponsorship of the Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 University of Maryland team.

Porter-Cable donated a variety of tools, including cordless and corded drills, circular saws, batteries, chargers, compressors, routers, pneumatic nailers and much more to aid in the construction of the team’s solar-powered house, which the University of Maryland team will assemble and operate during the competition.

Milwaukee Tool continues to expand its hand tool offering with the introduction of six new snips that are made with corrosion resistant metal to protect the tools from rust and deliver durability.

“Not only do the new snips provide best-in-class durability, they are also designed to uphold the highest level of ease of use and safety,” said Tim Albrecht, director of product marketing - hand tools for Milwaukee Tool Corp.

DeWalt has announced the introduction of its 24 Inch Tote with Power Tool Case. The two-in-one storage solution allows contractors to easily store power tools, hand tools and accessories -- like drill bits, nails and screws -- in the power tool case, which also functions as a lid. For internal storage customization, the tool case has a removable divider that stores larger items in the bottom of the tote, helping to eliminate the need for multiple tool bags.

The company, known for its power tools, is getting into the hand tool category for the first time with products that include utility knives, pliers, wrenches, tape measures, hammers, saws and toolboxes, among others.
