Mohawk is recalling its Altitude Gold shag rugs that are sold exclusively at Home Depot, citing a failure to meet federal flammability standards.

Specifically, the rugs do not meet federal labeling standards, which require rugs to have the following statement on a permanent lablel: “FLAMMABLE (FAILS U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE STANDARD FF 2-70): SHOULD NOT BE USED NEAR SOURCES OF IGNITION.”

Carpet One Floor & Home and its partner, Mohawk, have formed a new alliance with Building for America's Bravest, a program that builds custom-designed smart homes for injured service members.

The two companies will provide flooring and installation for the program, which has 49 new homes scheduled for completion over the next three years.

Atlanta-based Home Depot announced its 2013 Innovation Award honorees, led by Cree for its LED light bulb. 

The annual innovation award recognizes “the most revolutionary new products that provide true benefits to consumers and the companies that exceeded expectations in sales, service and program execution,” the company said. 

Mohawk Soft Spring Carpet received first runner-up honors for Soft Spring Carpet, and Plantation Patterns Patio won second runner-up honors for its Create Your Own Collection patio furniture.

Don Riley, the former chief information officer of carpet manufacturer Mohawk, has been selected as the new executive VP supply chain and technology for ProBuild. This surprise appointment, announced Nov. 23, reached outside the LBM industry to fill a role overseeing the largest pro dealer’s supply chain, information technology and manufacturing organizations.

ProBuild Holdings has named Don Riley, the former CIO of Mohawk, as its new executive VP supply chain and technology. In this role, Riley will be responsible for integrating ProBuild’s supply chain, information technology and manufacturing organizations, including developing strategies and programs to improve the company’s overall operational effectiveness, grow market share and maximize profitability.
