Great American Group is handling liquidation sales at eight Orchard Supply Hardware locations.

The eight stores, located in Citrus Heights, Fairfield, Huntington Beach, Lone Tree, Long Beach, Midtown, Newark and Vacaville, were approved for liquidation as part of the company's First Day Motions after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was acquired by Lowe's as part of an initial stalking-horse bid.

Great American Group won the bidding process to manage the store closing sales and has been managing the eight locations since June 29.

Cambridge, Ohio-based Orme Hardware added a store in Newark, Ohio, bringing its store count to six, according to an article in the Newark Advocate.

The new store is called Orme's On Main, and it will continue to be part of the Do it Best co-op, according to the article. Orme's five other stores -- in Berlin, Cambridge, New Concord, Cadiz and Newcomerstown -- are also Do it Best stores.

The idea of a nationwide chain of green building material outlets has been dreamed about by many eco-minded business people and investors. But it’s never gotten past the one-off stage, where successful green retailers push past their local markets with a successful model that can work in multiple cities across the country. Until now. 


The merger of Ecohaus and Green Depot, announced on Feb. 7, is a West-meets-East event that unites three of the pioneers in the green-building movement. Four, if you count Greenmaker in Chicago, which Green Depot purchased in 2008.
