Beazer Homes USA, Inc. has named Christopher Grumboski VP and treasurer. In his new role, he will be take charge of all treasury-related functions, including cash management, lender and land-banking relations and debt capital markets activities.

Additionally, Beazer's former treasurer, Ekaterina Schwallie, has been named VP national finance and strategic planning.

Garden Grove, Calif.-based Earth Friendly Products, the manufacturer of ECOS laundry detergent and other all-natural cleaning products, is increasing its minimum wage to $17 per hour in honor of Earth Day this year.

Additionally, the company will continue providing a bonus worth one week's pay for both Earth Day and Labor Day to all employees.

The move backs the company's ideal of a sustainable, fair and responsible work environment, first established by founder Van Vlahakis in 1967.

Stocks lost much of the momentum they'd gained over the past couple of days after new home sales were announced, which came in at their slowest pace since last July.

New home sales took it on the chin in March.

According to the Commerce Department, sales of new single-family homes reached their lowest level since last July, dropping 14.5% month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 384,000.

This is also 13.3% down from year-ago levels, which is the largest year-over-year decline since April 2011.

The median sales price for new houses sold in March was $290,000, with the average sales price hitting slightly higher at $334,200.

Boise Cascade Company enjoyed a boost of 3% to its sales in the first quarter, but took a hit in terms of net income.

The company's bottom line was $5.57 million in the three-month period ended March 31 -- down from $80.8 million in the same period last year. The company attributed last year's high income to a $68.7 million income tax benefit associated with recording net deferred tax assets after Boise Cascade converted from a limited liability corporation to a corporation.

Ace Hardware is celebrating the milestones it has reached within its supply chain in the aim of reducing its carbon footprint this Earth Day.

Specifically, two Ace Hardware Retail Support facilities are being recognized for their participation in zero landfill initiatives, which see to it that a product is reused instead of being sent to a landfill or incinerator. The Ace Hardware Import Redestribution Center in Suffolk, Va. has been enjoying zero landfill status for over a year, and the counterpart facility in Kent, Wash. is 95% of the way there.

Medford, Wis.-based Crestline Windows and Doors has considerably expanded its stocked product offering at Menards stores in recent weeks, the company announced.

Products now on the Midwest retailer’s shelves include several sizes and styles in the Select 200 Series, Select 250 Series and Select 300 Series.  Menards' customers can access all-vinyl patio doors and windows right from the retail floor, with special orders of other Crestline product lines, sizes and styles also available.

Builder Partnerships describes itself as a single channel for manufacturers and service providers to streamline communication and reach out to leading private regional home builders of various size and product mix across the country.  The service includes a “competitive incentive program on behalf of our manufacturers for builder members.”

Bill Adams, founder and chairman of Adams Manufacturing, has been honored with the 2014 Inventor of the Year Award from the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association (PIPLA).

Adams took home the top honor this year due to his innovations in the design of suction cups, outdoor resin furniture, holiday accessories and other consumer products. It's also a nod to the significant economic impact he has made on the western Pennsylvania region and American manufacturing as a whole.

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s first-quarter 2014 Remodeling Business Pulse data of current and future remodeling business conditions show current condition ratings fell significantly in March.

Dropping 0.2% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.59 million, existing-home sales largely flatlined in March, according to the National Association of Realtors. The March results are also 7.5% below year-ago levels.

The slight drop, which is down from 4.60 million in February, is the end result of sales gains in the Northeast and Midwest being canceled out by declines in the West and South.

Lumber Liquidators is getting ready to launch its 11th annual April Sale, which began as a "Black Friday" tradition associated with tax season.

"It's not by chance that our big sale is in April," said founder and chairman Tom Sullivan. "In 2004, my accountant came to me and warned that we needed to pay taxes by April 15th and that we were not going to have enough funds, so we quickly put together a huge sale to offer our overstock hardwood flooring at incredible prices. People loved the deals and we paid our taxes just in time!"

Tempe, Ariz.-based MTD Southwest Inc. is recalling several thousand Remington and Troy-Bilt electric leaf blowers, citing a laceration hazard applicable to both brands.

The blower's impeller has a reported tendency to break and strike the operator during use. MTD received 17 incident reports related to the Troy-Bilt model, which included 12 injuries that resulted in cuts, bruises and lacerations requiring stitches. One incident involving the Remington model was reported, which resulted in cuts and bruises.

Deltic Timber Corporation managed to generate more positive sales flow to its coffers in the first quarter of 2014, though its net income was not as impressive as last year's.

Net sales for the three months ended March 31 were $55.4 million, up 33.2% year-over-year.

Net income for the quarter was $4.9 million, down from 2013's $6.8 million. President and CEO Ray Dillon attributed the decrease to lower operating income for the company's Manufacturing segment; harsh winter weather conditions slowed construction activity through much of the country.

Roofing consultants group RCI named Sidney I. Hankins, as president of its board of directors.

Hankins, of Knoxville, Tenn.-based Roof Design and Consulting Services, was named president at the Annual Meeting of Members during the 29th International Convention and Trade Show in Anaheim, Calif.

First VP is Jean-Guy Levaque of Halsall Associates, Burlington, Ontario. Second VP is Robert Hinojosa of RJH and Associates of Miramar Beach, Fla.

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association convention was held in Washington DC on March 31 thru April 2. I was in attendance with my fun and beautiful wife Melinda Ganahl. After I took the role of the WCLBMA President in late 2013, [WCLBMA Executive Director] Ken Dunham and I discussed the various duties I needed to perform. On that list was attending the National Legislative Conference in DC. The purpose of my being there was to represent our West Coast interests.
