Griffin, Ga.-based Osmose, Inc. now has a patent on its MicroShades micronized color technology for treated wood products.

The company said the patent (no. 8,603,576 B2) was issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in December.

“This new Osmose patent involves a method using micronized iron oxide color pigments for treating wood,” the company said. It complements other patents owned by Osmos.

Osmose, Inc.'s MicroPro preservative technology received Greenguard Gold Certification from UL Environment, guaranteeing low VOC emissions and healthy standards for the wood treatment.

The Greenguard Gold certification process involves testing for low chemical emissions, which is aimed at reducing indoor air pollution and minimizing chemical exposure. The Greenguard Gold seal indicates that a product is safe for use in schools and healthcare facilities, among others, and is aimed at reducing risk for the most sensitive members of the population.

Hometime, a long-running television home improvement program, will be featuring Osmose MicroPro treated plywood in an episode airing in late June on PBS. The plywood will play a prominent role in a residential deck project featured in the program.
