Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning announced Wednesday that it had added two new members to its board of directors. The new members are NBCUniversal EVP Cesar Conde and FMC Technologies SVP and CFO Maryann Seaman.

"We welcome Maryann and Cesar to our Board of Directors," Owens Corning Chairman and CEO Mike Thaman said. "Our company will benefit from their broad business experience and diverse backgrounds."

The National Safety Council has awarded Owens Corning with the 2014 Green Cross for Safety Medal, the top honor given annually to an organization with an outstanding safety record and a proven commitment to its community.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation has released its Corporate Equality Index for 2014, which recognizes several names in the residential building and home improvement industry for their commitment to workplace equality for LGBT employees.

This year, a record 304 companies -- in various industries and parts of the country -- earned a top score of 100%.

Included in that cadre are 3M, Clorox, Owens Corning, Sears Holdings and Whirlpool.

Insulation giant Owens Corning is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Owens Corning reported growth across the board in the third quarter of 2013, especially in its insulation category, which delivered its best quarter in six years with a profitable year to date. 

Net sales for the quarter were at $1.32 billion, up from $1.28 billion on a year-over-year basis.

The company reported net earnings of $51 million, compared with $44 million during the third quarter of 2012.

Owens Corning has been placed on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the fourth consecutive year, named this year as the Industry Leader for the DJSI World Building Products component.

Go to any website that shows required insulation levels by Climate Zone, and you won’t find recommendations for foam over batts, or batts over cellulose. Instead, you’ll see target R-values. It’s the builder’s job to select the materials to hit that target, balancing budgets with preferences.

PVC and composite decking manufacturer Fiberon has appointed Shellie Sellards as its newest vice president of marketing. 

Sellards, who brings a proven track record of growth to the table, will be leaving her current position Owens Corning, where she held the position of director of strategic marketing -- insulation. She also worked at Trex and The Dannon Company.

Miele has commissioned a study to back up its claim of having America's quietest dishwasher.

Owens Corning Acoustics Research Center conducted comparative research testing for clean and soiled loads. According to Miele, the results show that its dishwashers maintained their decibel settings throughout washing cycles of all intensities. Also, the tests found that a leading manufacturer touting quiet performance registered a decibel increase of as much as 6 levels for a soiled load, compared to advertised levels.

If you visited the Owens Corning booth at the International Builders’ Show, you might have helped paint a 75th anniversary picture. The finished work has been unveiled.

Owens Corning unveiled its “OC@75” group-project painting, a work of art that was produced by brush strokes from 1,300 different people. 

The painting celebrates the company’s 75th anniversary, and was a work in progress during the 2013 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas in January. Visitors to the company’s booth contributed to the painting under the watchful eye of an artist.

Werner’s Energy Seal Attic Ladder, developed with Owens Corning, has become a Home Depot exclusive.

Greenville, Pa.-based Werner Co. is bringing its aluminum Energy Seal Attic Ladder to Home Depot on an exclusive basis.

The new product features the Owens Corning R-5 PINK insulation, within a 1-in. thick door structure. The aluminum attic ladder also features weather stripping around the frame that eliminates 60% of air leakage by creating a tight seal when the door is closed, according to the manufacturer.

Owens Corning has reported consolidated net sales of $1.28 billion in the third quarter of 2012, down 11.7% from $1.45 billion during the same period last year. 

The company reported net earnings of $44 million, compared with net earnings of $124 million in the third quarter of 2011.

Owens Corning has lowered its earnings expectations for 2012 based on a weak selling environment for its roofing and composites. Full-year adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) for the company are now expected to be in the range of $280 million to $310 million, with the primary uncertainty through the remainder of the year attributed to roofing volumes.

Owens Corning has named Michael McMurray as senior VP and chief financial officer, effective immediately, to replace Duncan Palmer, who is leaving the company to join Reed Elsevier, a U.K.-based company.

McMurray, 47, joined Owens Corning in 2008 as VP and treasurer. His most recent position was VP finance leader of the company's $3.5 billion building materials group. Prior to joining the Owens Corning, McMurray was finance manager of America’s Lubricants for Royal Dutch Shell.

Owens Corning reported net sales of $1.39 billion for the second quarter of 2012, a 4.1% decrease from sales of $1.45 billion during the same period last year.

Owens Corning has released its sixth annual Sustainability Report, which showed year-over-year intensity reductions in all environmental goals set and a list of innovation-driven achievements.

Among the accomplishments highlighted is a reduction in waste-to-landfill intensity by 22% in 2011, which represents an absolute reduction of more than 37,000 metric tons. Owens Corning also reduced its toxic air emissions intensity by 37% last year. That amounts to an absolute reduction of 236 metric tons.

Building products manufacturer Owens Corning reported net sales of $1.35 billion for the first quarter of 2012, a 9% rise over sales of $1.24 billion during the same quarter a year ago. The company reported a net loss of $46 million for the quarter, which ended March 31, 2012, compared with net earnings of $24 million in the first quarter of 2011.

"Owens Corning delivered results in line with our expectations for the quarter," said chairman and CEO Mike Thaman. "We continue to be confident that we will grow adjusted EBIT in 2012.
