Electrolux agreed to acquire the appliances business of General Electric for a cash consideration of $3.3 billion.

The announcement was made early Monday morning. 

According to Electrolux, the deal enhances Electrolux’s position as a global player in home appliances, offering an opportunity to invest in innovation and growth, and is a particularly attractive strategic fit in North America.

As upstart home goods e-tailer Wayfair gears up for a likely IPO in 2014 or 2015, Michael Fleisher will step in as the company's new CFO to help speed the process along.

Fleisher, who is leaving his post as Warner Music Group vice chairman, replaces Nicholas Malone, who is remaining at the company as chief administration officer.

Houston-based hardlines co-op Handy Hardware Wholesale submitted papers for their much-anticipated plan of reorganization March 6.

The 1,300-member regional co-op filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. Whether Handy can return to its place as a meaningful and profitable player in the hardware business remains to be seen. This much is certain: What was once $27 million in member equity in Class A and Class B shares has vanished.

Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Sears Holdings Corp. has added Paul G. DePodesta to its board of directors.

DePodesta is currently VP player development and amateur scouting for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball, but he is more famous as the young, forward-thinking, statistics-obsessed Oakland A's executive upon whom the Jonah Hill character was partially based in the recent movie "Moneyball."

In his company’s first earnings call since its spinoff from Sears, Orchard Supply Hardware CEO Mark Baker introduced his company to analysts as a unique player, operating, at about 44,000 sq. ft., between the big boxes and the small independents. He described his newly public company’s focus on three high-margin categories: repair and maintenance, backyard, and paint. He also explained Orchard Supply was in transition mode — an 80-year-old company turning around several years of negative comps, with upgraded merchandising and stores.

Stock Building Supply has confirmed its plans, outlined in an April 1 memo to employees, to reorganize the company into four divisions and eliminate two top executive positions. 

The Raleigh, N.C., pro dealer will no longer have a chief operating officer or VP national sales. Instead, Stock will rely on four regional presidents/general managers, to oversee the No. 4 player in the LBM industry, according to the Home Channel News Top 350 rankings.
