The Group Merchandising Conference slated for June 16-18 in Atlanta will bring manufacturers and PRO Group-affiliated distributors together for business, according to event organizers.

During the event, vendors will have the opportunity to demonstrate products to distributor buyers at the GMC in suites with private, prearranged meeting times.

PRO Group Director of Merchandising Brendan Sullivan described the event’s format as time-tested.

Wood-Mizer, a sawmill manufacturer, announced the opening of a new sales center for small mills located in Reddick, Fla. Cordwin Custom Sawmill, owned by Chad Cordwin, will join Wood-Mizer’s growing distribution network as the 22nd sales center located within the United States and Canada.

During the 2014 Spring Business Meeting, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry named immediate past president Art Donnelly of Legacy Builders & Remodelers Corp. in Mount Sinai, N.Y., as its chairman of the board.

According to the group, Donnelly will continue to focus on helping NARI provide positive experiences for its members and their customers through professional and educational opportunities.

Scheduled to appear in top form at this year's Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association (STAFDA) 38th Annual Convention & Trade Show is keynote speaker Joe Gibbs.

Joe Gibbs is the former coach of the Washington Redskins, and, in STAFDA's words, "the force behind innumerable NASCAR wins." He started his NASCAR team, Joe Gibbs Racing, in 1992 -- just before he retired from the NFL. He returned to the NFL to head the Redskins team from 2004 to 2008.

He will be speaking at the General Session of the event.

Sears Holdings has appointed William Hutchinson to the role of SVP and president, Supply Chain. He will succeed Raj Penkar, who is retiring on May 31, 2014 after leading the unit since 2011.

In his new role, Hutchinson will be responsible for all aspects of the supply chain, including distribution, transporation, customs compliance and global sourcing.

At the inaugural Best of U.S. awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., Kori Ade, coach of U.S. Olympic figure skater Jason Brown, was honored with the USG Building Dreams award.

Ade had been Brown's coach for 14 years -- the only one he's ever had -- and has never missed a performance. She's seen him through 14 international trips and many junior, national and international wins. She also moved her family to help meet his training requirements.

Johnson City, Tenn.-based General Shale named Charles Smith as CEO of the company, the North American subsidiary of Wienerberger, a manufacture of brick.

Smith is a 22-year veteran of General Shale and he previously served as president and COO. He succeeds Richard L. Green, who retired April 1.

"Charles has helped steer General Shale's operations through a major economic downturn, and he played an instrumental role in revitalizing the company's product development," said Heimo Scheuch, CEO of Wienerberger.

Former Home Depot executive Troy Rice has joined Office Depot as EVP retail as the office products company continues to build out its senior leadership team in the wake of its merger with OfficeMax.

Rice replaces Juan Guerrero and will report directly to Roland Smith, chairman and CEO of Office Depot.

Albertson, N.Y.-based Marlin Lumber Sales Corp., which offers mill direct sourcing for hardwood flooring, welcomed industry veterans Kevin Kelly and Dave Nickodemus to the Marlin sales team.

"Both Kevin and Dave are key additions to the Marlin sales team," said Jan Schottenfeld, Marlin Lumber president. Effective April 1, PPG Industries has named Dave Cole VP packagings coatings and Anup Jain VP specialty coatings and materials.

Jain was previously serving as VP silica products. In his new role, he will be responsible for the optical monomers and coatings and OLED/specialty synthesis businesses, as well as the photochromics R&D organization. He will continue to oversee PPG's silica products business.

Cole was formerly president of Transitions Optical, in which PPG owned a majority interest stake until just recently.

The Home Depot is announcing the nomination of Wayne Hewett for election to its board of directors during its 2014 annual meeting of shareholders.

Bonnie Hill, the board's lead director, will not stand for re-election; the company's corporate governance guidelines require directors to retire upon reaching the age of 72 by the end of the calendar year preceding the annual meeting. Gregory Brenneman has been selected to succeed her as lead director.

Effective immediately, Faro will report to president and CEO Rich Holder and will assume full responsibility for the execution of the Group's strategic growth plan.

Roger Dankel will be the president, North America Sales, in which role he will be charged with the strategic leadership of the company's sales, customer support and distribution. He has been with the company since 1993 and has served as sales manager for the southeast branch since 1997.

Accepting the award at a True Value hosted ceremony were Chris and Jason Cleaver. 

The retailer converted to the co-op’s Destination True Value format in spring 2013, and the owners see continued community support along with opportunities for growth. 

The farm-and-ranch segment has been an area of focus for the wholesaler, which describes the segment as its fastest growing.
