Mills, the 42-year-old vice president of Mills Fleet Farm, a 34-store farm and ranch chain based in Brainerd, Minnesota, is looking to bring the common sense nurtured in a career in retail to the halls of Washington.

His big complaints concerning the current state of national politics: “the bickering, the debt, and Obamacare.”

Is he right? I don't know, but it seems as if Washington, D.C., is quite a mess these days, with a mounting deficit and acrimonious factions.

Still, one of the highlights on the HCN calendar is the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. This year's event, in addition to several rounds of strategizing and lobbying, featured presentations from not one, but two politicians.

Senator Angus King of Maine has been added to the NLBMDA's lineup for its Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference.

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) announced that Senator Angus King (I-Maine) will be a featured speaker during the Washington Briefing breakfast at the Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference.

The conference will take place March 18 to 20 at the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, Va.

With California’s controversial “lumber assessment” now being assessed on most lumber products sold in the state under so-called “emergency” regulations from the state’s tax collection agency, the State Board of Equalization (BOE), the next process for the state agency is to develop permanent rules including a permanent retailer set-up reimbursement.

The mixing of paint and primer together, in the same can, has swept through the coatings industry like no other innovation. Almost every manufacturer and retailer has added a version of this product to its assortment, although some have done so reluctantly. Within the paint industry, many dismiss paint-and-primer combos as a marketing ploy that raises the price of a gallon of paint. Others say it can save time and money and has a rightful place as a consumer option.
