RPM Performance Coatings Group, a Medina, Ohio, holding company that owns consumer brands Zinsser, Rust-Oleum, DAP and Varathane, has purchased API, an Italian flooring and deck coating business. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Based in Genoa, Italy, API is a $28 million company that produces and installs epoxy and polyurethane flooring systems for the Italian building market. It specializes decking solutions for cruise ships, mega-yachts and naval applications.

RockSolid Floors Polyurea Floor Coatings are taking the cans out of the equation for a more environmentally friendly product plus better product handling, according to the Minneapolis-based company.

The multi-layer Polyurea floor coating systems now feature advanced pouch technology. The kits still feature the same Polyurea floor coating formulas, providing 20 times the durability of epoxy floor paints.

A recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announcement about consumer use of spray foam insulation threatens to deflate the growing sales — and availability — of this popular product. In April, the EPA expressed its concerns about certain chemicals found in spray polyurethane foam, which is applied as a liquid and then expands to fill cavities or gaps.
