Eco Building Products, Inc. is beefing up its production through the purchase of additional automated coating equipment and the use of a currently operational facility in Augusta, Ga.

Executives from Do it Best Corp. celebrated the grand opening of the co-op’s new Retail Service Center in Sikeston, Mo.

Bob Taylor, president and CEO of Do it Best Corp., and Sikeston Mayor Jerry Pullen cut the ribbon on the 550,000-sq.-ft. facility, which will serve as the co-op’s strategic hub for product distribution to members throughout the Midwest and central United States.

Pope Resources has announced a $6.8 million sale to Richmond-American Homes, which involves 63 single-family lots in the northern portion of the Partnership's Harbor Hill project in Gig Harbor, Wash.

"This is the second bulk sale of fully developed single-family lots we have closed on thus far this quarter," said David L. Nunes, president and CEO. "We look forward to additional residential lot sales from our Harbor Hill project over the coming months and years as the project matures and enjoys increased interest from merchant builders."

Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores reported discouraging preliminary figures for its fourth quarter and full year ended Feb. 1, 2014.

Bruce Johnson, president and CEO, acknowledged that the results were disappointing, most notably in the Hometown and Hardware segment, where weaker-than-expected holiday sales had an impact. Additionally, severe winter weather did not help the company's cause, he added.

Williams-Sonoma reported net revenues increased to $1.5 billion in the fourth quarter ended Feb. 2 from $1.4 billion in the prior-year quarter. This year’s fourth quarter had just 13 weeks compared with last year’s fourth quarter, which had 14; excluding the additional week in the prior-year quarter, net revenues grew 10%.

Net earnings totaled $133.8 million, up from $133.7 million in the prior-year fourth quarter.

Citing legal concerns, the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) is urging the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) to withdraw "Improved Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses," its proposed injury and illness reporting rule.

The rule would increase the frequency with which employers had to report injury and illness data (in new electronic formats), as well as treat the data as public information.

Ace Hardware Corp. announced today that it has acquired Emery-Waterhouse, the Portland, Maine-based distributor of hardlines products for independent lumber, paint, industrial and hardware outlets.

Building products distributor BlueLinx reported sales gains for the fourth quarter and full year, but still finished in the red. 

For the quarter, sales increased 10.4% to $486.3 million. The company narrowed its fourth quarter net loss to $2.5 million, compared to a net loss of $11.4 million in the same quarter last year.

Oak Brook, Ill.-based Ace Hardware Corp. reported total fiscal 2013 revenues of $4.2 billion, an increase of 8.2% over the previous year.

“2013 was a record year for the company," said John Venhuizen, Ace president and CEO. “We outperformed our operating plan, exceeding $4 billion in consolidated revenues and $100 million in net income for the first time in our history.”
