Thomas E. Markert brings to the board a background that includes roles at Office Depot, Citicorp and Procter & Gamble.

Chicago-based True Value Co. announced Wednesday that Thomas E. Markert has been appointed to its board of directors.

Markert has more than 30 years of business and marketing experience, including a role as senior VP strategy and innovation at Office Depot. He also held leadership positions at ACNielsen, Citicorp and Procter & Gamble.

Eagle Materials, producer of basic building products including cement and gypsum wallboard, reported sales of $154.0 million in the quarter ended June 30, up 29% from the same quarter last year.

The sales increase was driven primarily by increased wallboard average net sales prices and increased sales volumes for all of the company’s diversified businesses.

Net earnings for the quarter were $13.98 million, up from $807,000 in the prior-year quarter.

Boucherville, Quebec-based RONA, the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products, announced the appointment of Michelle Laberge as senior director of communications and public affairs. 

She will report to Claude Bernier executive VP marketing and customer innovations.

Laberge joins RONA from MSL Canada, a public relations agency where she was VP for its consumer division, representing clients such as Procter & Gamble, Indigo Chapters and Fujifilm

Central Garden & Pet, a leading supplier of seeds, pottery, insecticides and other outdoor living products, reported net sales for its third fiscal quarter of $484.3 million, a 4% increase over the same period in 2010. The company said its sales gains were largely driven by the garden products segment, which reported sales growth of 6% for the quarter.

Las Vegas -- Eastern Tools and Equipment unveiled its line of Duracell generators to the home improvement market during the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas.

The familiar copper-colored equipment represents a deal about a year-and-a-half in the making, and follows some long negotiations with Procter & Gamble, which owns the Duracell brand.
