Fountain Valley, Calif.-based Noritz expanded its ecoTough Series of gas-fired residential condensing tankless water heaters with the new NRC83.

The Energy Star-rated unit is designed for smaller homes and multi-family dwellings. Available in both indoor (the two-pipe, direct vent NRC83-DV) and outdoor (NRC83-OD) models, the new wall-mounted units have an energy factor (EF) of 0.92 for natural gas and 0.94 with liquid propane -- approximately 30 points higher than a standard, storage tank-type, gas-fired water heater.

Fiskars Canada is voluntarily recalling its propane-powered string trimmers due to safety concerns. The SmartPower Propane 4-Cycle Curved Shaft String Trimmer, sold at Canadian Tire stores, could pose a danger when engine vibration allows the propane canister to rotate. This causes abrasion to the fuel line and possible flammability created by gaseous propane being released through the damaged fuel line during both use and storage.

According to a report in the Nashville Business Journal, Dickson, Tenn.-based Fiesta Gas Grills filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. 

According to the article, the company listed more than $35 million in liabilities and $15,000 in assets, with the largest secured creditor being Ontario-based Wolfdale Engineering, maker of propane cylinders.

Most propane is treated with an ingredient that smells like spoiled eggs when the tank leaks. This safety measure helps consumers detect leaks. But some of the propane in about 700 rail cars of propane gas sold in portable cylinders from Morris Ill.-based Aux Sable Liquid Products do not have sufficient levels of the odorant.

As a result, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Aux Sable Liquid Products announced a voluntary recall of the propane cylinders.

Columbus, Ohio-based Worthington Industries, makers of metal products including hand torches and propane tanks, posted sales of $580.7 million in the second quarter ended Nov. 30, up 30% from $448.0 million in the same quarter last year.

Net earnings, however, declined to $14.5 million, down from from $23.2 million in the same quarter last year.
