WOLF announced it will move its New England distribution hub from its current location in Worcester, Massachusetts, to a 100,000-sq.-ft. site in Northborough. The move to a larger distribution center will boost WOLF’s ability to serve kitchen and bath and building products to dealers in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and upstate New York, the company said.

WOLF took full occupancy of the new site on Sept. 22 and will close its current facility, which the company has outgrown since it opened in January 2011.

Providence, Rhode Island-based air management company Nortek, Inc. named Jeffrey Mueller as group president of its Residential Ventilation (RESV) segment.

"Jeff Mueller's deep expertise in global kitchen and bath product manufacturing, operational improvement and strategic growth for leading brands will serve our RESV business well," said Nortek president and CEO Michael Clarke. "He has a solid record of results in an impressive series of previous positions, and we are excited to welcome him to the Nortek team."

Lumber and building material industry veteran Michel E. Dowling, 68, of Marana, Arizona, died unexpectedly at his home. The cause of death was congestive heart failure. 

Born in Rhode Island, Dowling entered the WT Grant’s organization’s management training program after college. He served as a hard goods buyer, remaining in that position until the Grant store's demise in 1976.

Nortek, Inc., a Providence, R.I.-based manufacturer of range hoods, bathroom fans, heating and cooling products, air management systems and more, has named Matthew Hughes VP and treasurer.

In his new role, Hughes will oversee all treasury functions, risk management and taxes.

Mansfield, Mass.-based distributor Boston Cedar brought in some star power to help relaunch its decking, railing and trim product lineup.

Hockey legend Bobby Orr was on hand at the event in Providence, R.I., as was Providence College basketball coach Ed Cooley.  The celebration was designed to launch the compan's new decking, railing and trim product line up, and it attracted many of the leading northeast lumber and building materials dealers, according to the company.

Marco Island, Fla. -- George Hebert, president of Providence, R.I.-based Blackstone Supply Co., received the PRO Leadership Award during a luncheon ceremony. 

Steve Synnott, CEO and president of PRO Group, presented the award to Hebert during the Distribution America and PRO Group Executive Planning Conference here at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort.  

Synnott described Hebert as an executive with a "zest for change" and a vision for the future.

Granite Gold’s nationwide distribution expanded with the addition of Shaw’s Supermarkets in the Northeast and Stater Bros. Markets in Southern California.

Shaw’s Supermarkets, which has more than 120 stores throughout Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, now carries Granite Gold Daily Cleaner and Granite Gold Polish.

The Rhode Island Builders Association and Builders Helping Heroes in partnership with Homes for Our Troops are planning a May 18 groundbreaking for the home of an injured veteran.

The specially adapted-home project for Corporal Kevin Dubois will break ground in Burrillville, R.I.

The event is requesting community support for volunteers, tents, tables, chairs, podium and sound system, according to Doreen Lewis, community outreach coordinator. She can be reached at dlewis@homesforourtroops.org.

Wickford Lumber closed its doors "abruptly," according to local media reports in North Kingston, R.I.

Monday was the True Value-affiliate store's last day of business, and it closed without notice, according to the NorthEast Independent newspaper.

The Wickford Lumber website describes the business as "the place to come when you are looking for first-quality products, reasonable pricing and plenty of service."

Voters in 38 states will consider 174 statewide ballot measures on Nov. 6, 2012, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). These proposals are wide-ranging, with a number of them having potential workplace implications.

Questions appear on the ballots in more than one state concerning:

• Medical marijuana use;
• Legalization of marijuana; and
• Same-sex marriage.

Lancaster, the paint sundries distributor, has made some executive moves.

Tom Daniels has joined the company in the newly created position of VP sales for the Northeast. He will be responsible for the direct management of the Lancaster sales team and business development for the Northeast market.  

The company also appointed Steve Amaral as its new territory manager covering southeast Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Rhode Island.

The syndicated home improvement talk radio show “The Money Pit” crossed the 300-affiliate mark. The show’s newest markets include El Paso Texas; Huntington W.Va.; Savannah, Ga.; and Reno, Nev.

The Money Pit, heard in many of the country's top markets including New York, Atlanta, Orlando and Providence, R.I., added more than 20 new stations in the first quarter of 2012, breaking past the 300 affiliate station threshold.

Branchburg, N.J.-based LBM distributor Mid-State Lumber announced the culmination of an 18-month plan to expand into New England and announced its New England sales team.

"Today a complete staff is working with a 100% focus of supporting the retail lumber dealers and industry associations in the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire," according to a company statement. The New England team is led by Mike Kelly, New England sales manager.
